Costco, always Costco. Great price and I can either pick them up in the store or have them delivered to my home.

Thank you all for the feedback! Got prices from America’s Best and Costco - Costco a solid $150 cheaper for my combo of 1 year contacts + 2 pairs of glasses (long overdue).
Feeling productive - thanks again!

Can y’all explain why that battery storage box is so cool? I’m not getting it. Looking at pics of it, we have never had that many batteries at one time, to begin with.

We keep plenty batteries of every type known, so it makes sense for us to have them all in one place safely away from each other. Plus the incorporated battery tester is quite handy to figure out if a battery powered gadget croaked or if the battery went dead. If you only keep a few of 1-2 most popular kind, this box may not be a great buy.

We have a rubbermaid tote in our pantry with a variety of batteries, flashlights etc. That’s where we keep our simple littl battery tester (from Radio Shack, way back when).

Why do they need to be kept safely away from each other??

To prevent short circuits which could happen when batteries are taken out of the original packaging and stored loosely in a container.

We used to use a shoebox, then a plastic bin for our batteries. A friend gave my husband a battery daddy gift and it is a big improvement. You can see what you have, test half used batteries taken out of old things and it is compact. We now have given them to all our sons/sons in law the Christmas after each of them have become dads. For all, one of those things you didn’t know you needed, til you had one. (Bought on Amazon)

I’m going to try the battery box because we buy them at Costco and once you open the package they go all over the drawer. I’m hoping to have a less messy drawer. I had to cancel my first order since it still hasn’t shipped. Reordered this morning in a different color and it should arrive tomorrow.

Huh. This is something I always thought was over-the-top. I will rethink this.

Whether you get a dedicated battery organizer or just use a tote or shoebox, it is definitely nice to have something you can take out and put on a table. And you need a tester. Long ago, we used to have batteries stashed in a drawer - that was not as good for us.

I helped a friend move last summer. She had SO many batteries! I couldn’t even put them all in one box because the box became too heavy. There were some batteries that had to be kept away from others, but I think those were the 9volts and the big square ones.

It wasn’t only batteries she bought in bulk but anything Costco sells, like hand sanitizer, lotions, cleaning products. And spices. She sent me home with a basket of spices and when I recently sorted them, I found at least 8 boxes/jars of paprika, several of the same type (smoky, hungarian, mexican). Yep, never offer to move a hoarder.

We use rechargeable batteries wherever is practical. Don’t use them in the smoke alarms or key fobs but we use them in flashlights, remotes, and pretty much everything else.

I have an old Chromebook with broken hinge, won’t seem to power up (or maybe has a bad screen). How should I prep it before dropoff at Best Buy for recycle? Since I can’t power up, not able to “power wash” as advised online.

Best way to sell old, fine jewelry? (Not sure what kind - elderly neighbor needs to get them out of bank safety deposit box, get cash she urgently needs.)

There is an event coming to town for “Premier - Gold, Silver & Coin association”. They buy a lot of different things, including jewelry. I assume their payout is low, but process would be easy. Interestingly there is also similar event for “The Heartland Road Show”. Seems like it would be a good way to get a worst case estimate.

I also have the names of local jewelry stores that my friends say are fair and honest. I called one and found they have three methods: I called them, and they have three options. 1) appraisal, usually for insurance purposes, is $75 each 2) some selected pieces they will take for consignment 3) they pay per oz for gold and silver, give you back any gemstones from the pieces

I recently took some old gold (and a bit of silver) jewelry to a local jewelry store that was well reviewed. No gemstones. All of it was sold by weight; none as a piece. I got a lot more than I anticipated. Gold and silver is very high right now.

Silver hit an all time high today.

I knew our silver was silverplate, but after checking all the other silver service pieces passed down from our families, none of it is solid. :frowning:. I’m still not sorry I sold my stuff when I did (most was gold anyway) because I’m not a gambler or speculator. It was at all time high that day too!
