The Random Questions thread

So many traffic helicopters for many hours, morning, afternoon and evening. I am surprised that the local networks don’t use drones–much safer, and quieter for all of us throughout the NYC metro region.

Shown below is an ant hill (?) at driveway seam near garage door. (door at top of photo). Should we be concerned? Hubby thinks it is a non-issue, but I’m thinking it might be good to add some poison or something, though in general I shy away from that kind of thing.

I’d leave it alone. The world needs ants. Not in your house, I’ll grant you, but in your driveway – fine.

Thanks - if they are regular ants, I’d be ok leaving it alone. Guess I’d better try to get a photo to make sure not carpenter ant (maybe not even possible?) or other bad thing.

There are ant hills in just about every crack in the sidewalks right now. You haven’t seen any anything going in or out?? And that’s the only one?

As long as they are not subterranean termites, I wouldn’t worry.

They make similar “hills” but the insect looks different.

We had to treat for subterranean termites a few years ago. Luckily we caught it early. They can really cause a lot of damage.

Are there any men’s jeans brands that seems to run a little short? My husband would love 33” length, but we so far find only find 32 and 34 options. His recollection is that Lands End used to offer option to hem to length but seems not available now(?)

You can send a picture to CSU extension service. They will answer almost anything about plants and animals (including pests).

I really should have taken a photo when I saw activity (can’t even recall what they looked like). Most of the time tis just a mound of dirt with no obvious activity.

My S has a really strange situation, and we’re wondering if anyone has any insight. He travels often for his job, driving a company vehicle assigned to him. He stays in one particular town often; the town is 2.5 hours from his house. Today, he received a flyer from a dentist in that town. It was sent to his house (again, 2.5 hours away), but it was addressed to “resident.” What prompted this odd junk mail to be sent to him?

Was he staying somewhere in that town? Or sign up for a rewards program at a restaurant there?

His personal information was likely sold to a data broker, who then sold it to the dentist. The dentist likely never saw the list, just used a service to send out the junk mail.

He does stay in town, sometimes at a chain hotel (he’s a rewards member) and sometimes at Airbnb’s. He also works out at Planet Fitness when he’s in town. He doesn’t sign up for many rewards programs, but he may have done that. He is really careful with his online presence, so it really bothered him. I told him the fact that it says “resident” - not his name with an “or resident” qualifier - should make him feel just a little less personally violated.

H loves his Levi 501 (32/30). When I looked up if they come in 33 length I found a type that are called “Shrink to fit” on the Levi website. It explains how to do that to fit your body.

Does anyone have the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe 11-in-1 Ice Cream and Frozen Treat Maker? I am going to get this for H for his birthday as he is my ice cream lover. If you do have this or something similar what are your thoughts?

So curious if anyone has an answer! I have coveted that Creami but was leery to buy another gadget (tho have wonderful Ninja coffee maker, smoothie blender, and air fryer!)

Not familiar with that gadget but related to that, I just discovered Ferrero’s nutella ice cream yesterday so there is no need for an ice cream maker in this house That ice cream is to die for!!!

I want to know how you like your ninja air fryer - is it the clear one?

I talked to a friend that has one and loves it. I went ahead and bought it, but if H decides he doesn’t want it I will take it back.

It is the smaller air fryer (not clear). A bit on the small side (but I was new to air fryers and wanted to try out). It’s great for cooking French fries with next to no oil, toasting bread, etc. We don’t use it much for cooking chicken/fish because have outside gas grill. I do like it for the healthy-cooking aspect.
