The Random Questions thread

WD40 ia another option. Not sure I’d use an abrasive on SS.

The hair dryer loosens the glue and you can peel it off

Barkeeper’s friend is non-abrasive and is recommended as a ss cleaner by All Clad.

I love Bar Keeper’s friend. It was another CC find for me. I usually use a bit of oil or nail polish remover.

I use olive oil. But it has to be dry. Let it sit there for a while and then rub it off with a napkin. All oils are solvents, some are just stronger than others. That’s why artists use linseed oil in their oil paints.

I also have some concentrated Citra-solve. I’ll dab some on and that always works. But you have to let it sit first.

Wouldn’t it be better if tag adhesive wasn’t so beastly? And if they didn’t put tags right on the front of something?

@greenwitch It was real big sticker too that I got off. It is the glue residue that I need to remove. Will try these ideas tomorrows and will let you know what worked for me. Thanks everyone for being so helpful.

I always use Goo Gone to remove adhesive residue.

Try rubbing cooking oil on it with a paper towel if you don’t have any of the other remedies.

@jym626 - Re AGT, are you saying that Preacher Lawson’s entire performance was interrupted by the Last Supper? It must have been something involving your local station, as his complete performance aired here.

That’s correct. The entire bit was replaced by a still photo. Might’ve been a Game of Thrones picture- not sure. Very odd

New question:

Ajax vs Comet
Brillo vs SOS
Etc.

Is there really any difference?

Whichever scrub pad it is that doesn’t rust. I’m a Barkeeper’s Friend user, too, btw.

And for the record, neither olive oil or cooking oil worked in my last sticky residue battle.

But I’d like to know what cleans a SS sink such that the next time you use the sink, even just running water, doesn’t undo the effort, leave water marks, etc.

For the sticky residue, you could also shake on a bit of baking soda and add a few drops of white vinegar. Let it fizz for a few seconds then scrub. Might work.

Just to let people know, hand sanitizer works great on pine sap.

I don’t know a good place to ask this question, so I figured the Random Questions thread might be the appropriate place. I have been working closely with an Israeli company this year and run many meetings between my team and the Israeli company’s team. I have been to Israel twice this year for meetings and workshops with them and so have quite a bit of interaction with their team. I know that right now they are in the midst of their holidays and their office will be shut down again in early October for more holidays. At the end of our most recent meeting with them early this week, I closed the meeting by saying “Enjoy your holiday, we’ll talk again at our next meeting on XXX” or something to that effect. I always say something similar in December to pretty much everyone the last time we meet/talk prior to the end of the year (“Enjoy your holidays” seems like a safe generic message that addresses whatever anyone may celebrate, and even if they do not celebrate any religious holidays, pretty much everyone globally get New Years Day off which is a federal holiday for everyone I deal with). But when I was thinking about it later, I realized that “Enjoy your holiday” may not be an appropriate thing to say for the Jewish holidays. I don’t know the history behind the current holiday nor the one coming up in early October to understand if it is something to celebrate with joy (hence “enjoy”) or if it is a somber day of reflection and telling someone to enjoy it would be rude/inappropriate. I know there are many Jewish people on CC so I am hoping somebody can educate me on what is an appropriate thing to say. Of course the safest thing would be to say nothing, but I’d rather say something nice/appropriate.

This holiday,Rosh Hashanah, is New Years so that’s fine, but the next one, Yom Kippur,is the day of atonement. You can say “have an easy fast” as that’s what many say.

@C3baker: That’s very sensitive of you.

What happened to that thread (promised to be a doozie) from an international poster who wanted to open two CA accounts and apply to two schools ED?

I recently renewed my passport. What do I do with the old, expired passport? Shred it??

Mr. B just did that. Got his old one back with holes punched in it. He intends to keep it - some countries ask for dates of former visits, but he traveled a lot.
