The Random Questions thread

I think you stop refreshing the food and drinks (or at least, moderate,) about 30 minutes before the ending, turn down the music. Good luck.

I once went to a party where the hostess had given people staggered times. I don’t know the details of how she did it but it worked nicely to spread people out.

@oscar63 would you believe I haven’t had a chance to even try it yet? Guess I’ll really find out since it’s even more baked on now, as D continues to use it with foil on top…grrr

Not sure if it’s worth even the elbow grease now, @JustaMom5465 but I use Dawn Power Dissolver for stuff like that. Can be hard to find but usually at Wally World. I’ve had good success with really bad burnt on stuff but it does have its limits.

You spray it on, let it sit maybe 15 minutes, then supposedly wipe off with a sponge but in realty it doesn’t come off quite that easily. But it’s the best option I’ve found.

I have a question; I’m really out of this scene and dont quite understand.
re: legalized pot.
How old do you have to be to get it? Can you ticketed if you are underage and have it on you? (like MIP for alcohol?)
how long does pot stay in your system? Can work places still random drug test for it in states where it’s legal? Can workplaces (not under federal guidelines like DOT rules) tell you not to use it or have rules against it?

was just reading how the whole west coast has legalized it now; was just wondering how it all works with work/underage kids/& rules.
thanks!

Thanks @alooknac … Tried the vinegar/baking soda route yesterday, no luck. Tomorrow I’ll try some barkeeper’s friend. If that doesn’t work I’ll keep an eye out for that Power Dissolver.

Based on Colorado, 21 years of age. Yes, you can be in legal trouble if underage. Yes, it can be drug tested for and prohibited by employers.

Please tell me that Twitter is just capturing the outliers, and that after a week and a tank of gas, Oregonians are every bit as proficient at pumping their own gas as the rest of us have been for years.

LOL–we were in Europe in an area where pot is totally legal. What do you want!!!
My big chance!..go for it!!!.. and I just couldn’t do it.
Didn’t want to spoil my vacation if I didn’t react well…
(BTW that was probably smart on my part I’m sure…)

Oregonians pump their own gas? Why? Where? No Way!
We DO NOT WANT to pump our own gas!
We are ok not knowing how to when we visit other states!!!

Help, cc’ers!
I have some new annoying malware on my pc that is announcing (not a pop up) “Internet security alert! Your computer may be infected…” blah blah blah. Its saying to call Windows support, but is not giving a number ( I thought it would give a fake #). I am running a complete (not abbreviated) virus scan with Windows security defender, and have been told by my family that with this security program I don’t need to run other malware programs. I have put the speaker on mute, but wondered if anyone else had had this and knew what it was? All I find on line so far relates to pop up fake alerts. I will ask DH to look at it tonight, but wondered if anyone had any experience with this malware?

I am running the latest ios update on my phone. The new phone wont take a screenshot (had to go through some accessibility thing to get it to work). Any suggestions for fixing that on the iphone 8 (brand new).

Hmmm
Is this happening over and over?
A few times this message popped up and I turned my computer off immediately.
Turned back on and it was gone, no problems. This happened 2-3 times many months apart.
I did this because I panicked! But whatever it was we have had not problems ( knock on wood).

After the virus scan, clear cache and history. (I would have done it before. Sometimes you rerun the quick scan after clearing those.) There’s more you can do, but that’s often enough for me. Not every virus scan is always up to date or catches what others might. I’ve got both Malware Bytes and Kaspersky running and the tablet came with McAfee. (Am I really that worried? No, but the CC adware pop-up frustrated me.)

Defender is supposed to be good. Some uber malicious stuff can embed to cloak itself, so to say, on a laptop. Kaspersky’s TDSS Killer is great at detecting that.

It’s unusual for an Iphone.

It’s not a pop up, @oregon101, it’s an audio announcement. Over and over.

That’s creepy.

@jym626 , I went to an open house-style party years ago where the hosts invited guests to two different time frames. The invitations just read differently. Of course, this ran into some problems when people who knew each other were assigned to different time slots, so some from the earlier time slot–such as me! --lingered into the second time slot waiting for another friend to show up, not realizing that there actually were two time slots. But I think it did work to space people out.

That seems really awkward. And the invitations are already out.

New question:

I am planning to fly to visit S1 and my DIL the last weekend in April. When is the optimal – ie, cheapest – time to purchase my airplane ticket? Is it now, or should I wait until the date is closer?

I usually start scouting out fares 3 months in advance. If my preferred flight choices are few and the price is reasonable, I may purchase then. If I’ve got more flight choices, I keep track of the fares, but I rarely purchase in less than 2 months ahead. My local airport doesn’t tend to have many flights for where I’m usually going, so my routine may not work for you.

I fly about 6 RT segments/ year for personal reasons. Unfortunately our family is scattered all over the US. I’ve been fortunate to have flexibility, but it is coupled with limited resources. I’ve never found a pattern that works for us, except that the price usually goes up after I’ve searched, and down after I’ve purchased. I’ve tried wiping cookies, tracking, waiting for specific days to reserve, not waiting, etc. I’ve signed up for “sale” notices, but by the time I check the airlines, they are often sold out. It is even more complex now to compare apples with apples due to super-sale pricing by major airlines that usually don’t include seats, luggage, etc. The only noticeable differences found in our market is that flights on Tues, Wed. and Sat. are typically cheaper (but not always).
