The Random Questions thread

I’m going to have it completely recovered and all the soft materials replaced. I’m just waiting for the price quote. I’m not happy about it, but since I can’t have people in my living room with the couch smelling like this, I’m trying to view it as adding another room to my house for the low, low price of recovering a couch.

I have a credit card through Delta that has the perk of having a first bag checked free for everyone in my travel party.

Question that my google-fu is currently failing to answer: if I book for someone else using the card, do they still get the same perk(s) without me flying with them? (An “in general” answer is what I’m looking for.)

Our United card that has a free 1st bag checked does NOT transfer to people you purchase tickets for. The benefit sticks with the primary cardholder. Hopefully Delta is different, but no idea. The Delta Customer Service folks should know or you can call the number on the back of the credit card and ask them.

Here’s a link that states the primary cardholder must fly on the itinerary for folks to get 1st delta bag free.

Thanks, HIMom. I emailed Delta support but haven’t heard back.

Right. When you book a ticket for someone else using your Delta credit card, it will ask if you are travelling too. If not, they won’t get your perks. I am Gold on Delta, (ironic since DH used to be the one with the high status when he traveled a lot for work)- but now I get 2 free checked bags. So if we are flying together and have to check bags, we check them both under me/my ticket and none under his.

Also, when I flew to meet him this summer when he was on a business trip, and we flew back together, we were on different itineraries. I could book a “preferred” seat but he was in the back in a lousy seat. I was able to call the Delta frequent flier desk and get the 2 itineraries linked, and they then changed the seats so we could sit together in the preferred seats (front part of the cabin). In that particular case I was subsequently given an upgrade to either economy comfort or first class (I forget) but he wasn’t upgraded as he was officially on a different itinerary. But, when we fly on the same itinerary, I can request upgrades for both of us. If it splits our seats, I can call that desk and ask them to seat us together. We happen to be flying this weekend, but with the hurricane, trying to call and get through to Delta will be a joke, so we’ll just see what happens if we get upgraded and separated (or stuck in center seats with an upgrade to economy comfort).

Thanks @jym626

Since you have the card, one more question- do you get MQMs for only the miles ~you~ fly or anyone that you buy for on the card? I know with just the loyalty program, the miles are only accumulated from you but I wasn’t quite sure about the MQMs with the Gold card.

@romanigypsyeyes -I pay for the tickets with my Delta AmEx card (mine isnt the gold, its the platinum, but I am guessing the benefits are close to if not the same) so I get the $ credit for the purchase towards the benchmark goals on the card. For every …… … sit down…… $25K you spend in a calendar year you get 10,000 MQMs. But no, the passenger gets their miles on their Delta frequent flier account once they take the flight , regardless of who pays for it (so be sure they have a FF account).

BTW, miles and MQMs are not the same. https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/skymiles/medallion-program/how-to-qualify.html

Good god. Delta’s program reads like the IRS tax code! Crossing my fingers that Alaska will continue to keep their mileage program simple. But they seem to begin following the leaders in the race to the bottom.

Why is there a Sub-Topic on Elections and Politics that has been closed for years?

@VaBluebird - I know posts never go away, but there has to be a way of hiding the subtopic after it’s been closed for years.

Ahhh… It can’t be hidden. It has a CC historical landmark designation.

We had a party at our house last weekend and brought in BBQ from a great local place. We have a good bit of pulled pork and pulled chicken left over. I’m planning on freezing some for sandwiches down the road but there must be some other ways I could use it. Ideas for other ways to use it in recipes??

I love bbq pulled pork on a baked potato with a little butter, sour cream, and fried onions.

Pulled pork/chicken quesadillas.

You can have rolls and make sliders—easy for quick meals, appetizers, etc. You can add some veggies or coleslaw for a more rounded meal.

burrito bowls

Soup. I freeze portions. Lately, “cream” soups, like sweet potato or pumpkin (with light coconut milk instead of cream.) The meat would be a topper.

But it could be for vegetable soup with meat.

This is a half rhetorical half serious question. As I read through the Sunday ads, why is there an ad, multiple pages, from the dollar store? Everything is -well, a dollar! most of the items are things they carry in stock routinely with only a few seasonal Halloween things and Thanksgiving type things. But seriously most everything else is their standard stock that they carry why would they really need to advertise it and spend marketing money? Again everything is a dollar. Gotta wonder how many people will look at the ad and say “wow I gotta run to the dollar store- didn’t know they sold Ajax dish soap. “
