Are the passage questions in this book valuable for SAT CR? The format of the SAT has changed since then but did the passages change in anyway? Are the passage-based questions more direct and easier, or the same as they were in the Red Book?

Just curious.

The format of the SAT changed from those in the blue book?! When?

^No, no, the test hasn’t changed format. The Red Book is the OLD, OLD edition of the current Blue Book. The BB is the most current CB study guide.

Oh. LOL. I thought the redbook came after BB.

The Red Book is the most accurate for tests after you’re done with the BB and the official online tests.

@pi : the Red Book isn’t that old; the third edition is from 2003, merely 7 years ago. I think the non-comparison math questions are still valuable for practice if you have run out of post-2005 real test materials.

^OK, I may have exaggerated about the age of the Red Book. :)

The point is, the BB’s are the most recent CB study guides.

The Red Book CR is exactly the same as the CR in the BB…however the sentence corrections are harder in the BB because the number of H questions are greater on the new BB CR (aka post 2005)

Aside from the analogies, the CR does look the same. In fact, I found math sections and CR passages in the RB that are also in the BB.

(acronyms ftw!)

^Yes, the non-administered tests in the Blue Book (#4-#10) were built, at least in part, by using questions from actual SATs, some of which appeared in the 10RS books.

The only discrepancy that you will find will probably be between the analogies and the sentence completions.

I have kinda a different approach to using SAT material. Since I know post 2005 sat material is limited and I totally sucked at critical reading before this summer, I bought 8real sat and the 3 editions of 10 real sat’s just to get my technique and the kinks out of my methods for critical reading before going to the blue book and beyond. I’ve done about half of all the unique tests in these “old” sat books and have improved drastically without “wasting” precious material. The other approach I hear is use post 2005 material and only use old sat material if you run out but I guess since i’m only a sophomore and only cared about doing CR passages this worked for me. If you don’t have the time luxury I had this would not be the best idea. Oh the movie splice sucked.

P.S. I still hate CR
