Thank you so much for posting your experiences and insights. We’ll wait until September to make a decision, but it doesn’t really seem as if a break would accomplish much right now, so my guess is that we won’t. Thanks again!

I guess I’m grown up, have been married 20 years, and my spouse and I STILL sometimes get selfish, irritable, unreasonable, and get into arguments…

My two cents worth on the original post: More important than how many people you date is understanding yourself and what you really want–from relationships, from your life. Inevitably, relationships require us to change, compromise, adapt. That’s not necessarily a bad thing…but if you don’t yet know which direction you want your life to go, it’s hard to recognize whether a relationship is pulling you too far away from it.

I guess I’d say, give it time. If the relationship is a good one, if you’re happy and fulfilled by it, then enjoy it and let it mature as you mature. You’re still changing a lot at this age, both of you. It may be that you’ll grow apart over time. It may be the attraction will fade. But you don’t really need to borrow trouble while things are going so well, do you?
