MaineLonghorn, yeah. I do love Swenson’s. I used to live in San Anselmo, CA which is a great small town, maybe 15 miles north of SF. There was a Swenson’s less than a mile from my house. Used to go there all the time. It’s closed now.

Notrichenough, I understand the anger, age discrimination and wanting less pressure. Health care is a huge issue. College costs are ridiculous. Doing the same thing for 30 years can cause burnout.

Good luck to you. How much more time do you have before your wife throws you out of the house? :)

My wife does what she wants. She has very active friends, so if she wants to do something and I don’t, no problem. She goes with her friends. She wants to go camping. I say, “Go have fun. See you in a few days.” I don’t like camping.

I have two issues with my wife. She gets mad at me if I don’t put something away. I left a golf ball on the dining room table. Makes her mad. I just forgot about the golf ball. Didn’t even notice it. :)

Two, my weight fluctuates. I should weigh 160 to 165. I have let myself go this year because…well I have my reasons but they are bs. I weigh 180. My wife hates that. She thinks I should weigh 145. I can not weigh 145 unless I cut off a limb. :)

I do think things are going to work out. No more waking up at 3:20 AM. Both my wife and I are very happy about that.

“LA isn’t even a city. Great beaches though. Great beaches and lots of women with fake breasts. San Diego is nice. But both LA and San Diego are terrible walking cities. Everyone drives. SF is a great walking city.”

I’m more concerned with beaches than walking. SF has cold water and from my perspective so does most of the CA coast. Now San Diego has great beaches with warm water.

Even So. Cal is not that warm. You want warm, go to the Gulf…or Hawaii. OR into Mexico…Summertime in Greece or better yet, Larnaka, Cyprus…now that is bathtub water.

Like dstark and overseas I grew up in SF…and it’s in my blood too. I am a walker too, and think it came from a childhood in the Richmond and then the Sunset where all of us roamed the neighborhood and into Golden Gate Park as young kids, only coming inside when called for dinner. I’ve lived all of my adult life 45 minutes south, but I’d move back in a heartbeat if my husband would agree. He’s a suburban boy through and through…Plus, and only the Californians will get this…We’ve owned our house since pre Prop 13 and as far as he’s concerned we’ll be in in til we die!
And yes, Swenson’s is the best. The one in my current town closed years ago.

I went to a beach just north of LA and the water was frigid - like northern New England, but San Diego - the water was perfect. I don’t like the water bath tub warm. The water in Cancun in the summer is a bit warmer than I like. Aruba was great. I’ve only been to Greece in January. I thought the water was fine but the “χωρικοί” thought it was too cold.

Ahhhhh… I walked at the intersection many times. Used to eat at the Front Room many times with my future wife. My family used to go to Pasquale’s which isn’t far from 8th and Judah either.

All I can say…retirement is awesome! I no longer have my day job interfering with all of the things I really want to do. I’m working a 12 week job right now because I WANT to…and I’m loving it.

When the word got out that I was retiring, I got a bunch of calls about civic committees. I am on two that I really enjoy. And yes…i joined a gym, and go to yoga.

I worked in my profession for 37 years, and loved it. I decided to retire while I still loved it.

Thank goodness my husband has health insurance through his job!

Dstark- i need a new knee, i have to walk with a brace & a cane - i was trying to wait 6 months before a replacement, but im going to have to schedule it before the end of the year.
its pretty bad when my inlaws who are in their 80’s feel sorry for me.
im remembering that while we walked all over SF in 2009, it was bothering me on the hills and we had to rest more than i would have otherwise. frustrating, because i have always been a big walker.

Emeraldkity4, I thought you had ms, or you were dying or something. I thought I read somewhere that you thought you had fewer than 10 years to live.

A new knee? Ok. I am glad I was mistaken. How long is the rehabilitation these days with a new knee.

Thumper1, great to read that you are enjoying retirement.

i admit i have been pretty depressed dealing with it & my family doesnt have very long lived genes.
But i hear that people are generally pretty pleased with the surgery.
rehab seems to be really variable- but ive tried all the non surgical methods & it isnt getting better so i dont have much to lose.

Mini, no joking. Would you use chip implants in your brain if your IQ would increase 100 points but your personality would change. You would no longer be you. In other words, would you give yourself up for 100 IQ points?
