I went last year. It’s like one big party, but we never win any money and don’t care for the mint juleps. It’s just fun to “people-watch”.
Our hotel served Bloody Marys and Mimosas in the lobby (room rates reflected it). Louisville restaurants require you to pay up-front just to get a reservation.

I have been, but many moons ago. I saw Gato del Sol win in 1982 and then also saw Golden Fleece win the original Derby at Epsom a month later. Not a crowd lover, but I’m glad I did both and saw the spectacle that accompanies each of them. I would like to go back to Churchill Downs on Oaks Day one of these years to see all the improvements they have made in recent years. My real go to horse nirvana is an hour away at Keeneland. Lots of wonderful college memories from afternoons spent there.
I’ll be watching this afternoon, but I haven’t followed spring racing enough to have a pick. I enjoy Gary Stevens, so it would be fun to see him do well.

H and I went 25 years ago. Due to an amazing connection of my in-laws we were in box seats very close to the track. Yes it was amazing and I would totally go again if I got the chance.
Watching on tv and the ‘over the top’ scene and outfits remind me of the Capitol in the Hunger Games.
H placed bets on Dortmond, Upstart, Keen Ice and It’s A Knockout all to win.
I was at The Derby the year Swale won and the next day he died. We were in the infield all day and it was a drunkfest.
I’m watching this on TV, it’s too hot to go out to my garden.
