The Search for a West Coast Mu.Th. BFA

Hello friends and strangers!

I am writing because CC forums have helped me out in the past to find amazing opportunities I would’ve never have discovered elsewise. My question this time is about University.

I am currently living in Canada (but have US dual citizenship) and am attending my first year of a Canadian University in the faculty of Theatre. I am most passionate about Musical Theatre, and my current school doesn’t have a Musical Theatre BFA program. I would like to change schools so that I can pursue my passion, but I feel like the few Musical Theatre schools in Canada are not for me. I would like to find a school on the West Coast (or near the West) of the U.S. which offers a highly-regarded Musical Theatre BFA. If anyone out there can offer suggestions on schools/programs, I would be very grateful. Thanks for your time!

Cheers,

P.S. As I have been at school in Canada my whole life, I do not have SAT/ACT scores. I have a very high GPA though. I really want to apply to get in for this coming fall (2011) so I don’t have time to take them before many applications are due.

GirlintheMirror - Have you checked the “Big List” to see what schools are on the west coast? The listings are by state so you could start with that and then search for posts on the schools that seem of interest to you. That may help you narrow your focus a bit. Break legs!

(see post #2 for the most up-to-date list)

It sounds like you are currently a freshman in college? In this case you will be a transfer student. As a transfer student you may not need to take the SAT. You will need to check each school’s website to see the transfer student policies.

The Big List is a great place to start looking for schools to check out. Often transfer student application deadlines are later than they are for freshman applicants – although sometimes this is not the case, so you will need to see the specific policies for each school.

Thank you both very much- really helpful replies!!! :)
