The Smell Of Gas

whenever I’m filling my car with gas, I love the smell of it. i know other people love the smell of gas too.

why? when i say i love the smell of it I just love the "smell’ - and in no way have a smell of ‘delicious’ or anything. just a smell of pleasure i guess?

but why? does anyone else love the smell of gas?

It smells so unique…i love it!

I love the smell too! I’m not sure why though…

Gas does have a good scent. Odd.

I like it too, actually.

I can’t stand it, but I love the smell of new paint and fresh woodshavings, if that counts.

I’m so glad to find other people who like the smell of gas!! Whenever I am at a gas station or when I mention how I like the smell of gas, people look at me like I just gave birth to a puppy. I find that there are few people who admit this but I have to say that I LOVE the smell of gas! :p

hey me too! i like to stand outseide the car just to get a whiff of it. but someone warned me it was addictive. i guess he was right :)

Yeah when I was younger, I wanted to work at a gas station when I grew up cuz I liked the smell a lot too … but the feeling has kinda faded

Did you know that you can get high off gas?
–learnt that in health class…

The smell of gas=feeling great=getting high=drugs=death

So…go to a gas station and die!

You actually can get high off of it and it is addictive… ever heard of “huffing”?

only on CC ha

it’s true. heard of sniffing glue? this is sniffing petrol. it’s addictive, and has the same consequences as glue. in where i come from, drug addicts have found a new item to sniff…used underwear.

lol what’re you guys talkin about, so now everyone who has smelled gas is automatically turned high?

it’s inevitable to smell the gas when you’re at the station so what are you saying

plus no one answered my original statement, does anyone know WHY the human senses (majority of us according to the answers) loves the smell of gas, but not as in a “food” or “cologne/perfume” way?

Probably because it makes us think of gasoline. Being a very educated, intelligent person (and having watched a certain CSI episode), I can tell you that scent is the most powerful sense for recalling memories.

I like the smell of gas, I thought I was the only one.

Many people enjoy the smell of gas, it’s undestandable because the smell (like many other chemicals in our daily lives) can be intoxicating, and people
can obtain a high from sniffing it.

Here’s an article about a new type of gas coming out from BP that won’t intoxicate petroleum sniffers:
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7495&feedId=online-news_rss20

I also love the smell of gasoline. You could probably get high from huffing anything, so I wouldn’t worry about the dangers of teenagers using gas to hallucinate. There was a story some years back about people in some poor country waiting for a cow to take a dump so they could use the methane from the droppings to sniff and get high. Called it a “cow pie high”.

I cannot resist the smell of gasoline. I like the smell of markers too…
