I saw this today and it made me smile remembering all the threads here on CC about the information we need to pass onto our young adult offspring.
Love it!
This is hilarious!! Especially, “What’s my social? Mom,why are you whispering it, just say it!!”
I think I’ve heard all of these!
I have had all of these conversations this year. I love it!
I am wondering how the girl in the video managed to sign and fax back her job/internship offer. Maybe she got lucky and they did not ask her to do it but my daughter called me with this particular problem.
I had seen this before and showed it to my 18-year-old daughter. She has expressed concern about knowing how to do all of that “adult stuff.” I told her, “See, you can just call me anytime you have a question and get an instant answer!” It really did seem to make her feel better.
The “social” thing is so me and my kids. I’ve told them repeatedly its time to memorize it. I’ve been asked way too many times and since I only have mine and my husband’s memorized it always means digging out the tax files.
I love how they want to be treated like an adult but still call asking all these kids of questions.
Lol. Thanks for posting.
My daughter needed to fax a form. NO idea how to do it. I told her to go to the athletic department office and ask. She was shocked that someone there knew how to use office equipment and send a fax.
It’s like magic.
My kids are in their early thirties, and I …think…we’re past this now. Pretty much.
Sadly, my husband called me this weekend whiled visiting our college freshman to ask for our kid’s social security number because he was trying to help set up the kid’s new chip-enabled ATM card. NEITHER of them knew the number. Sigh.
H wouldn’t have any idea on mine or any of the kids’. H and ex-H’s SSN are only different by 3 digits. I always have to pause and make sure I’m using the correct SSN for H.
If we add husbands to the discussion – that could take volumes! This morning my H couldn’t find the lunch HE packed last night and placed on the top shelf of the fridge in front. Neither he nor the kids can use our home fax machine - despite the number of times I’ve shown them how.
Good thing the husband is decorative, or I might lose patience with him.
Great video! Garland- good to know that by 30 they know what to do and have the habits (we still remind our son to do his taxes, fund his IRA- don’t trust him yet).
SSN- not something I would memorize. Only know mine because did so in college when they merely added a digit for student ID. Not terrible now because those files weren’t loaded into the computers now in use- I guess it takes longer to access info from then because the files are stored somewhere. SSN is something to have written down on paper and kept someplace- not on a digital device that can be hacked.
I find their knowledge is like Swiss cheese. Somethings they know, which astounds me, and then the things they don’t know astound me also.
Technology. They know technology.
I sort of casually mentioned taxes around 30 year old and he had indeed done them. But whenever he does some new grown up thing, I still sometimes get a #adulting text announcing it.
33 year old is married and owns a house; not worried about them with “adulting” things overall, but they’re looking at parenthood now, and I am ready to be on call for those calls!
Its funny to hear this stuff.
For those who haven’t seen the other end of things.

That’s my concern. God forbid something happens to me tomorrow, is dd going to be completely lost. They need academic smarts but also street smarts or common sense.
@dadx: That is my favorite commercial. I really never get tired of seeing it!!
