She won them all didn’t she?

I like Taylor Swift well enough, but she doesn’t seem very Country to me. Her music sounds more more like standard teen pop hits than anything to do with C&W.

I agree that she’s not really country but her age, looks, songs pull in a whole 'nother segment of listeners that country music was not drawing before. Therefore…she’s country.

I don’t have anything against her. Her tunes are teeny bop catchy but the live vocal performances I’ve seen her do on t.v. have not been impressive.

I saw that performance last night where she threw the chair. That was the first time I’ve ever seen or heard her. I think she’s lovely, but it didn’t seem that she could sing at all.

She’s a sensational songwriter (or she has sensational helpers, but I tend to believe it’s her). She’s not a sensational singer, or even sensationally beautiful, but she’s tall, blonde, has great hair, and manages to project genuine emotion and enjoyment when she performs. I was watching that show intermittently last night (cooking dinner, then after Glee); for the most part, the performances were complete snoozers. The joke about Carrie Underwood changing dresses every 10 minutes got old after 20 minutes. But Swift was really, really watchable.

I had never heard of her, much less heard her, before the tsunami of publicity the coincided with the release of her second album a year ago. Now I’m a fan.

I must admit that I love her upbeat stuff, like “Love Story.” Even my classic rocker 17yo son find himself singing, “You Belong to Me.” She doesn’t have the best voice, for sure, but her stuff is fun and catchy, and she seems like a nice girl. She was good on SNL last weekend.

I’m a lifelong country fan, and every once in a while people say the genre takes a “wrong” turn. She’s just part of the evolution. Lots of room in the country tent.

I thought the CMA show was amazing and every act (except Kid Rock who I don’t like) was awesome. We all loved it here in Music City and we love our Taylor Swift! She IS lovely and DOES write all her own songs. She isn’t the greatest vocalist, but she is a stellar entertainer and a genuinely good person. Keith Urban’s song was great and the tribute to Barbara Mandrell was incredible. Little Jimmy Dickens stole the show, as usual. (I know- I live in the right place… )

MOWC - She is OUR Taylor Swift! LOL!
We love her here in PA since she was born and grew up here. Her mom moved her to Nashville when she was 13 so she could be a star and what a star she is!
JHS - you are of course correct - Taylor writes her own songs (who does that anymore?!) and has been writing songs since she was about 10.
She has the “look” and the talent. Her monologue on SNL was hilarious and demonstrates he ability to make fun of herself. It has been wonderful to see her grow up and not have wrecked her life at age 19.

A couple of years ago when one of my girls went off to college a bunch of southern guys were just wild over her. She laughed when one told her “Taylor is a true Southern Belle” .

D2 loves her. Both of our girls like country music. The first group they liked was Dixie Chicks. A while back D2 asked me to take her to see Taylor Swift, it just so happened the tickets went on sale. I got tickets for 2 nights, front row, lower section. I think she is very pretty, and her songs are nice too.

My H even likes Taylor Swift and he doesn’t like country music. (We fight over the car radio station all the time.) He says her looks remind him of Renee Zellweger - not classically pretty, but making it work for her. But we both think she writes well - probably wouldn’t make it on her voice alone, but her songs are appealing.

We also think Taylor Swift is adorable. My 15 year old likes her songs as the lyrics tell stories that relate to her in hs. She is not the best singer, but she is a very good entertainer. DD also thinks she has the cutest boyfriend around (Taylor Lautner).

I don’t think they are going out any more.

Uh oh! He might be the subject of her next song.

My son (yep- WildChild) met her at a condo pool this summer where she now lives and where he has a good friend. My normally smooth son claims to have made a fool of himself. He did introduce himself and chatted for a few minutes. He got one picture (from a distance) with his phone. He was pretty much in awe. He’s a huge fan.

More to add- One of my co-workers was a seat-filler at the show last night and said Taylor’s first number sounded MUCH better live than on TV. (She recorded the TV broadcast and played the beginning this morning) She doesn’t know what was wrong, but she said there was a big difference in a couple of the numbers.

I am quickly becoming a Taylor Swift fan. I would not call her an amazing musician, but she has a lot going for her. She is certainly a talented songwriter and a strong performer.

Did anyone catch her on SNL recently?..she was the host and the musical guest. We DVRed it and watched it a few times. She has done better than many other hosts.

She seemed to have very natural comic timing. I’ve had a case of lyricosis all week singing her catchy MONOLOGUE tune. See if you can find it on youtube.

Her little incident with Kanya West probably catapulted her to a little more fame than she might have otherwise enjoyed, but she is deserving of some real credit.

I like her doing “Missing You” with Tyler, check it out on Youtube. He is so cute.

I am mostly into hip hop , but thought she handled SNL and Kanye well. Right now, she’s big, he’s not.

Taylor Swift was big even before the Kanye episode - I don’t think he catapulted her to any more fame than her already record-breaking Fearless album and tour. She is awesome in concert, and every single one is a huge event.

It also helps that parents don’t mind buying the tixkets - her lyrics and liferstyle are very clean. I have to say that Taylor Swift and Billy Joel (Last Play at Shea) had the best concerts I’ve been to in a long time.

MOWC,
Your son’s friend must live in the same building as one of D’s former suitemates who is now in law school with S. Every time D goes to visit, she hopes she’ll chance into riding the elevator with Taylor. One of her friends recently did and was too shy to do more than chat the weather. D has a fuzzy picture taken with Taylor at a Vandy tailgate two years ago and says she is a very sweet girl.
BTW, Simon Cowell evidently also owns an apartment in that building for those occasions when he has business in Nashville.
