The Tea Towel thread

When I was taking a pic of our eating space for the dining room thread, I thought it might be fun to have a thread with amusing tea towels.

You can post a pic or just share what’s written on your most clever/funny/amusing tea towel. Was it a gift? If so, what was the reasoning for the giver’s selecting it for you?

About a hundred years ago, I read, *The Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love.” I decided I could also dub myself a queen as the author and her friends had done, so many people call me, “Queen First Name.” I also get, “Q first initial,” and, “Queenie” (which I hope will someday be a grandma name for me.

I actually bought this one for myself, but I’ve had other queenly tea towels given to me over the years.

Here are a couple I’ve received as gifts.

My favorite tea towel, given to me by my daughter for Mother’s Day, says “get the h*ll out of my kitchen”. I HATE having people in my prep space when I’m trying to cook so it’s very appropriate. ; )

I collect tea towels when I travel so while they don’t say anything clever or funny they are a great reminder of the places I’ve been.

This is what’s currently on the dishwasher, and so very a propos of what happens in my house:

It was a gift to myself as a souvenir from a trip.

I have an over abundance of tea towels and reusable bags. H says no more, but we travel & things just end up in my suitcase :woman_shrugging:t2:

The one on the right I bought in Burgundy in April. It has 6 cocktail napkins to go with.

I started collecting tea towels several years ago when I bought my first one as a souvenir. Since then it has become both my souvenir of choice when I go on vacation, and our standard holiday gift (we all buy them for each other). I now have dozens, we use them everyday (sort of like a placemat on our kitchen counter)

However, I don’t do ones with funny sayings, I love ones that “teach” or are just pretty.

Here are some I have

Towels are my souvenir Of choice. I just brought back two from my recent trip. I don’t have many with sayings on them. My favorite might be one I bought in New Zealand with Kiwis on it. It’s getting holes so likely will get moved to the cleaning pile.
My husband hates my towels for practical use. He prefers terrycloth towels.

I remember being at the big tourist souvenir market in Tallinn and hearing several women bemoan the lack of tea towels!

I’ve started collecting them, albeit belatedly. They are in a drawer in the sewing room. I’ve seen a couple quilts that use them. Ditto pillows with a border and trim. I haven’t decided what to do, so I’m not going to do anything til I have A Plan. If I put them out in the kitchen, I know they’ll get ruined. But then again, what am I waiting for?!!

Love the snarky ones!
