The Tennis Thread

Thiem, Zverev, Goffin and Kyrgios are all looking menacing. Should be an interesting and unpredictable Wimbledon. Also looking forward to the draw. Will Federer be on Novak or Andy’s half of the draw?

As usual, Novak has been given the tougher draw, with the #3 and #5 seeds on his side. I don’t understand tennis. In any other sport, the #1 seed is on the same half as the #4, #6 and #7 seeds. At any rate, Djokovic may actually have the easier draw as Federer is not playing his best tennis at the moment and grass is definitely not Nishikori’s best surface.

Haven’t look yet. Just waking up and only first cup of coffee.

The round of 16 will probably look something like this:

Djokovic vs Mahut
Goffin vs Raonic
Federer vs Simon
Cilic vs Nishikori
Thiem vs Zverev
Tomic vs Wawrinka
Gasquet vs Tsonga
Kyrgios vs Murray

In that case, Murray got the toughest draw.

Still haven’t had a chance to look. I tend to shy away from predicting Rd of 16 on either side since draws usually find a way to fall apart,

I’ll pick final though. Djoker v VB.

Here is men’s draw. Couldn’t access it on Wimby site just through ATP site. Can’t get women’s draw on the site either. Weird.

So had a chance to look in depth. Some very interesting 1st Rd matches

Rosol/Querry
Sock/Gulbis
LeMonf/Chardy
Coric/Dr.Ivo
Theim/Mayer - Mayer just beat him in Halle semi and went on to win title
Kygrios/Stepanek - just because of how he played VB at RG and he is wily veteran.

Sunshine/Sveta
Puig/Konta
Pironkova/Bencic - this is an upset alert as Piro loves grass, she is full of confidence from RG and Bencic has been out for about two months
Giorgi/Mugu
Lucie/BMS

Here are both draws (minus qualifiers)

Kohlschreiber out already…

^meh.

Some really good matches today.

So nice to see a few Brits make it to the second round.

Anderson out and LeMonf. Chardy should have won in four.

I saw bits and bobs of Ana losing to some ova I’ve never heard of.

BMS/lucie was quite entertaining and I’m glad Lucie pulled it out in the end because I like her and so I don’t have to look at that miracle mophead BMS was wearing as a skirt.

Pella gave Rog a very good match but gosh so many wasted break points by RF.

Giorgi played really well today. Too bad she had to draw Mugu. H will be disappointed.

Any bets on Willis v. Federer tomorrow? I hope his really good story does not end 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

I think he’ll do surprisingly well. 6-4, 7-5, 6-3. He has nothing to lose and I think he’ll get lots of crowd support even though they love Roger.

So today was one big yawn. There isn’t even a match I want to watch on ESPN3 replay. :frowning:

Hopefully tomorrow will be better with all the suspended/cancelled matches plus rd2’s.

And why oh why did ESPN hire Patrick Mouratoglou? He needs to shut up already and stop being a media whore,

Rain rain and more rain

There are going to be players in the 3rd rd before some players have even played their 1st Rd matches.

Do you think they will play on Sunday? Or is it too early to tell?

Too early to tell. Play started about 30 minutes ago on the outer courts. They are trying to get in the players who still haven’t played their 1st Rd matches on courts to finish. All second Rd matches except those on CC cancelled already.

Was a good morning for me to have Drs appt and do my marketing. Haven’t missed a thing except Djoker ( no loss there.)

French Open women’s champ KO’d by a top 50ish in the 2nd round. Same old story. #2 in the world on the women’s side is a very slippery perch.

I was very surprised to see that. Rawanska came very close to going down too.

Another random top 5 win for Cepelova. I’ll be waiting for inevitable flop in next round.

Nice win for Aga today after being down 3 set points. Shame the teenager got injured but she should have been off the court and in the locker room with the win way before that.

Lisicki looking very good. She could easily make another deep run here.

Fingers crossed Domi can take out Genie in next round as I really cannot stand Chris Evert’s fawning anymore.

Meanwhile, the men seem to be moving right along with the exception of Thiem, who is playing way too many tournaments, IMO.

Domi is having a good year, keep it up
