He looked so happy, too!

Anyone know when Djoko plays Delpo? Today? time?

Watching Venus now. Love her red, white and blue dress.

Is it on TV or do you watch online?

I do not think the Djokovic vs Del Potro game is today. They both won their doubles game though.

@tx5athome -tennis is on all day on Bravo but they obviously can’t show every match. I think they may have more matches available you can on the NBC sports app.

Bravo isn’t switching from court to court as ESPN does for the majors.

I caught a bit early this morning and they did switch between Kei and Madison’s matches. I had to go to CT for a family thingy so haven’t seen anything else. I recorded so will watch a bit now before I fall asleep,

Djoko v. Delpo was a great high quality match. Really nice to see Delpo back. A day of upsets.

It was a great match.

TatinG, anybody who knows Del Potro knows that yesterday was not so much of an upset. When he is healthy, he is one of the top 5 players in the world, certainly on par with Wawrinka. As I said in post #1815, it would be an entertaining first round match. I was not so surprised with the outcome, although I must say I was very surprised that they wasted a first round match on those two. Del Potro/Djokovic should have been a quarterfinal or semifinal match.

They didn’t waste a first Rd match - the players were seeded and JMdP isn’t ranked high enough to be seeded and just like in every tournament they held a draw and that’s were the draw put JMdP.

It’s still rates as a big upset - especially since hardly anyone beats Djoker anymore. Djoker’s fans need to just eat their peas.

I agree emilybee, I just think that the way draws are determined is way too random. There needs to be a human element and a more methodical system put in place. As a rule, I do not understand how a number one seed can ever be on the same half of the draw as the #3 seed. It should be #1, #4, #6 and #7 on one half and #2, #3, #5 and #8 on the other half. For the first round matchups, I do not believe rankings alone should be used. Current and previous performance should also be taken into account. Anybody could see that Dep Potro and Djokovic both deserved much easier for round games.

In a way, I think losing early in the Olympics will serve Djokovic well. He will be better rested for the rest of the hard court season, and who knows, he may finally win Cincinnati, the only Masters-level title to elude him.

As for Djokovic’ loss being a big upset, it depends on one’s point of view. To me, it was not an upset. Perhaps because all I have ever known of the Djokovic vs Del Potro rivalry is that it almost always goes to a deciding set. The last time those two played was in 2013, but each of their last 4 or 5 matches went the distance, including Del Potro beating Djokovic at Indian Wells and taking Djokovic to 5 sets at Wimbledon.

Djokovic has won the majority of those matches, but it is never easy. Yesterday. Del Potro simply played better and deserved to win. I hope this is the beginning of his return to the top. I also hope that is the case with Nadal. Those are two of the classiest and best players on the tour, and, a you aptly pointed out, the current men’s game is boring. We need more variety at the top.

This is how it’s always been done and no amount if wishing it was some other way matters. I actually pteferred when there were only 16 seeds - made for a lot more upsets in early rounds.

Winning Oly gold >>>>>>>>>Cincy title. Even Djoker thinks this.

I would not go so far as saying that winning Olympic Gold is >>>>>>>>> than winning Cincinnati. Cincinnati carries more points and much more money. Olympic gold is more special than a masters title because it is so rare. Players get to play in 50-100 masters tournaments over the course of their career, but they only get to play in 4 Olympics. But it holds very little intrinsic value and is only slightly more important than a masters title from a technical point of view. Winning a major or World Tour Final is more prestigious than winning the Olympic gold. But to Djokovic, a man who is fiercely patriotic and loyal to his people, winning the Gold means a lot, so losing yesterday was very painful. It is unlikely he will have another chance at the Gold. At 33, he will be too old to win a best of five final. But of the best five players in the Open Era (Federer, Sampras, Nadal, Borg and Djokovic), only one won the Olympic gold, so not winning the gold is unlikely to impact Djokovic’s legacy.

That being said, winning Cincinnati would be a very impressive milestone in the case of Djokovic. No other player has won more than 7 of the current 9 masters titles. If Djokovic wins Cincinnati, he will be the only player with all 9 titles. That speaks to his versatility and consistency.

Maybe you don’t think so but there was a reason Djoker cried after the match. If you asked him he works say Oly Gold is much more important to him. Has nothing to do with money or points.

I’m not talking about what it means to his legacy - I’m talking about what it means to him. And it means more then any Masters even Cincy.

Just saw this, don’t know if it’s been confirmed elsewhere.

Djoker pulled out of Cincy.

I agree 100% emilybee, and said so above. Djokovic is very patriotic. Winning the Gold means a lot to him…certainly more than any masters title. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. He will most likely never win the Olympic Gold.

I expected Djokovic to withdraw from Cincinnati if he made it far in the Olympics. Having lost so early however, I am surprised that he decided to skip Cincinnati. Are Murray and Nadal also skipping?

Serena just melted down and lost to Svitolina. I think age is finally catching up even with Serena. In a critical game, she doubled faulted several times.

So now which woman will win the gold? I’m thinking Kerber.

Big Kerber fan. Would like to see her win.
