the test requirement

On part 2 of the application
is it better to send in a sat II writing score instead of a sat II history score even if ur history score is better than ur writing score?

I thought they specifically asked for “writing”. If not, history is fine. If the scores are not VERY different, they won’t even notice. MIT is not big on test scores.

write down your best score…
they’re going to see all of them, but they plug the top 3 into the algorithm that computes academic index…
no, i don’t think the algorithm gives extra points for taking the writing test.

Wait a minute, don’t forget that many of the top schools require the Writing SAT II, so it’s a better test to take in general even if not for MIT’s sake. I made the mistake of taking the US History test at the last minute, only to find that Carnegie, Duke, and Olin all require the Writing Test (At least Duke will waive this if you take the ACT). I know you’ve already taken both so my example doesn’t really apply, but Writing scores still need to be strong for other schools.

“Carnegie, Duke, and Olin all require the Writing Test.”
but MIT is special! =)
App says writing, literature or history.

MIT may be special, but you want to have at least one backup college on the oh-so-off chance that you get rejected.

MIT does not require writing – neither does Yale; however, most colleges of this level do.
