Our next selection is The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Discussion will not begin until December 15th, so you have plenty of time to beg, borrow or steal a copy of the book. Ill bump this thread mid-month to catch anyone who might have missed it the first time around and is interested in joining us.

In a nutshell: From Publishers Weekly: Setterfield pays tribute in her debut to Brontë and du Maurier heroines: a plain girl gets wrapped up in a dark, haunted ruin of a house, which guards family secrets that are not hers and that she must discover at her peril. And from Amazon: Settle down to enjoy a rousing good ghost story with Diane Setterfield’s debut novel, The Thirteenth Tale. Setterfield has rejuvenated the genre with this closely plotted, clever foray into a world of secrets, confused identities, lies, and half-truths. She never cheats by pulling a rabbit out of a hat; this atmospheric story hangs together perfectly.

so funny that you picked this…my local book club just met to discuss this title this month…I did it on CDs…this one presents well on audio I must say

This title sounded familiar and after a check of one of my bookshelves, I verified that I’ve read it. I remember liking it okay. Maybe it’s time for a re-read.

I’m just bumping this up for anyone who might have missed this thread the first time around. Our discussion of The Thirteenth Tale begins December 15th. There’s still plenty of time to start the book!

By the way, I may be the only person left on the planet who hasn’t read The Help yet, but if you’re looking for a copy, the price for the hardcover at Amazon just dropped to $10.50. Since it was at paperback price level, I bought it, so I’m game for that to be our next selection after The Thirteenth Tale, if there are any interested parties.

Countdown to The Thirteenth Tale…Discussion begins this Tuesday, December 15th. It’s not to late to pick it up–this is a book you could read in a weekend, if you were so inclined.

^ Great! The Help is our next selection, after this month’s The Thirteenth Tale. I imagine we’ll discuss The Help in January–or maybe February, depending upon how exhausted everyone is after the holidays!
