The Thread for those of us who were accepted this morning and rejected tonight.

this is a place for us to cry.

:( :frowning: :(

I really wish I had taken a screenshot of my acceptance this morning. As proof that I had been accepted for a short period of time.

What do you mean accepted this morning? Was there some kind of glitch or scam? I didn’t apply to NU but there seems to be a lot of discussion about this…

I don’t want to rain on your collective parades, but isn’t it possible that the financial aid department looked at you seperately and prepared everyone’s documents regardless of if you got in or not? That way it’s done simulaneously so everyone gets their decisions (and financial aid) faster. The financial aid department sends everyone over to the admissions dept, where they’re all attached to the acceptances, or discarded if the student is not admitted.

hopefully this makes it easier for you guys, since this way they aren’t taking something away from you.

Don’t worry guys, i’m sure you’re all capable and will go on to love your university of choice. Luck to you.

This sucks…I didn’t even get in for a second! Lucky ducks…

yeah bver, except it did say "_____, congratulations on your offer of admission to Northwestern! "

W00T w00t…NU accepted then waitlisted class 2012!

i think you should write a collective letter demanding your acceptance!! this is ridiculous!!!

What do you mean by those of us who were accepted this morning and rejected tonight?

Good god, and to think I was going to feel sorry for myself when I got waitlisted.

@Tubadork

Yeah, that’s what i meant. They probably prepare all financial aid packages assuming you’ll get in (why would they look at it if you’re not?) and then they write it up as if you are getting in. It’s up to the admissions office to stop the letter from going through or not.

But then again, this is just my guess.

To bver, yes i think this is a possibility, but the problem was that they released this to everyone accidentally this morning. Many people including myself were shocked to see that we had gotten in but in reality were rejected.

i am so so sincerely sorry you guys! best of luck in the future! i mean it :).

im joining the club guys!! You know for some reason, i dont feel too upset at all.Probably because Northwestern was a reach for me anyways and I already got into (what i consider) great colleges.I guess the only annoying bit about this whole thing is the status page accident…You just DONT do that to people.WE should get in just by virtue of being given hope…

I know im not too upset, but for many of u,northwestern may have been your first choice or dream school- and i understand how upsetting this may be.i don’t know how much of a difference this will make. BUT, i think if YOU believed you were qualified enough to take a chance at northwestern…you will get great offers from equally good,if not better places.and everything happens for a good reason.God sees the bigger picture we don’t, and he knows what hes doing.Just my belief-it helps me feel better. Best of Luck guys!!

ur right… but the prob is that i would not have minded being rejected if it had not been for the status page incidence but after seeing the other side for 5 mins it really feels bad… i mean they really should not have done that.

LETS SUE THEM!! i’m sure some of you must be suffering from mental trauma for their negligence. And then they might try to make an out of court settlement and take all of us in…oh boy,i am losing my mind…but it could work…come on, we are the people of HOPE!!!

bugh this sucks just asmuch the next morning

Can somebody explain exactly what happened?

All I can gather is that there was a financial aid offer that was visible to some students, leading them to believe (correctly) that they were in. But then later in the day they were notified of no admission?

Also it seems unlikely that they would take the time to prepare 25,000 financial aid packages, knowing that a large percentage would not even be offered admission - too much time spent by financial aid office, I just don’t think that’s how it works.

the question also remains is whether they were all waitlisted or rejected…If they were rejcted, this makes absolutely no sense…

If they were waitlisted, FA could have been calculated in advance: NU might not be able to turn that around on short notice when someone is pulled off the waitlist…just a thought…

Northwestern accepted-then-waitlisted '12!

Seriously, Northwestern screwed up once before with notifications. They sent an automated email in late Feb. titled “What’s happening at Northwestern?”, and sent another one later that day saying the first was a mistake.

At least it consoles me to know someone at the admissions office (possibly) lost his/her job.
