The "Tide Pod Challenge"

YouTube announced that they will no longer allow people to post videos of people eating Tide pods. Because this is an actual problem. Who the heck does this? I can’t even eat Brussels sprouts, and they are, in theory, an actual food!

It’s a new stupid trend. I couldn’t believe it was a real thing but alas.

Teens are stupid but this is a new level. Can’t we go back to flipping water bottles?

Coke & Mentos were the best silly videos.

I think it’s mostly a joke.

The 40 or so cases of hospitalized teens who intentionally ate one were probably depressed and suicidal anyways, unfortunately. We shouldn’t let our outrage over “dumb trends” overshadow the needs of these kids who are presumably in a very dark place.

Didn’t they eat live goldfish in the 1920s? Much less harmful.

(Although not to the goldfish.)

Remember the Cinnamon challenge? Another stupid Youtube trend. Plus the ghost pepper challenge. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

More evidence to support the research that the rational part of a teen’s brain isn’t fully developed until 25 or so!

I swear, if they stop making Tide Pods as a result of this I am not going to be happy. That new childproof packaging is already driving me nuts.

Hey. These are the people who will be taking care of you in the future. Good luck.

I’m with you, @millermomm .I buy a different pod, but I love the convenience.

I don’t think these kids are any dumber than kids of my generation. What I don’t get is why they chose a non-food for this stunt. Cinnamon is a food. Goldfish, well, it has ‘fish’ in the name, right?

The male brain. I haven’t seen or read of any females doing this extremely stupid and dangerous act.

What!!!??? No words. Just no words.

Stupidity is of all ages. Guy cementing his head in microwave and woman shooting her boyfriend in the chest point blank hoping that a book would ‘protect’ him come to mind. Not sure how old they were but they were no teens.
People have done stupid stuff since forever, now more so in pursuit of YouTube likes. Oh the wonderful world of social media where any crazy can reach more people than the planet’s most genius individuals.

Nasty (but unavoidable) thought: This is how natural selection works.

Exactly. In years past, the problems were very young children eating them thinking they were candy. Gotta watch your very young kids at all times but it only takes a second. Now its teens eating them as part of a challenge. There is no doubt a natural selection element at play here.

@yourmomma - worse yet, they will be eligible to vote in our next presidential election!

What is being proposed is making the pods less colorful. The color attracts young kids (candy!) and makes the product instantly recognizable in a YouTube video. Who would watch people eating white packets claiming they are Tide?

There are people who would watch pretty much anything.

Do they clean you out?

Have you seen the meme?

“Teenagers, here’s a tide pod challenge. Put it in the washer and do your laundry.”
