The Truth about Muir?

damn, which final was it? @___@

Finals are cruel with just about any subject, though the upper-div Chem courses are just f’ed up.

anon5524485,

If you listed Muir as your 1st choice, you should have an excellent chance of getting in. My son got in Muir last year with similar SAT scores and 4.00 GPA.

Good Luck!

anon5524485, that’s insane, how are you not ELC with that GPA? Is there massive grade inflation at your school or something?

Either my ELC letter got lost in the mail or I screwed up as a freshman.

My school’s cutoff for ELC (4% and not the 12.5% elegibility) was 4.2 or so for top 20 in a class of about 500.

screwed up as a freshman?

freshman grades aren’t considered when calculating eligibility for ELC

muir seems to be the favorite but I would caution that if you live in muir…you will probably live in triples…i think most kids are housed in triples (esp in the remodeled one) this year cus we got lots of frosh and you also have the biggest chance of being housed at revelle. not that revelle is bad, but you get the crappy dorms. There are 2 tpes of Revelle dorms…muir overflows get shafted and live in the OLDEST dorms.

I also read on our school paper last quarter that even though the muir dorms were refurnished, they ran into some problems? not sure but i think some said the shower doors wouldnt close all the way, TP holder didnt hold enough TP so some ran out on weekends (i thought this was funny), and some other stuff…carpeting?

but yeah other than that…muir food is pretty good (but you can always go there if you are from another college…just more walking), they have a surfshop (for surfboards, skateboards, longboards, gear),like pretty much ZERO GEs…esp when compared to ERC or Revelle…

muir is so good

right next to beach, easiest GEs. Also! the walls are brick so, unlike ERC you cant hear someone like 4 floors under you!

yeah, but those “thick walls” don’t allow wireless internet at muir res halls which i guess don’t matter if you don’t care about having cables around your floors (there is only one black box per room, so if you’re stuck in a triple, all have to share).

bathroom’s are much better now, they actually have soap dispensers built in now.

I brought my wireless port from home and can share my connection to anyone in my suite.

I also pick up signals from people 2 floors above and below me when they don’t control the strength of their signal.

it’s only good if you are lucky enough someone brings in their own wireless router…unless you wanna bring your own ;] all my friends at muir don’t have wireless.

I’ll need to bring a router then so that I can get my Wii online

cbf88- “anon5524485, that’s insane, how are you not ELC with that GPA? Is there massive grade inflation at your school or something?”

i go to the same school as him, and our grade inflation is crazy. last year there were at least 7 valedictorians WITH 4.0 UW. MEANING THAT they have never gotten anything lower than an A throughout their high school career.

seriously. at our school, getting ONE B can drop you 20 ranks…
isnt that so sad :(

only 1 or 2 people in my class have gotten straight A’s their whole high school career. 3 people already got into Stanford ed and one got in regular decision. pretty competitive school.

I’m thinking of bringing my wireless router as well, but I think I’m going to keep the SSID hidden (eliminating the need for WEP/WPA(2)) because I don’t trust other people going through my dorm connection. Mainly it’s just for my DS and Wii and a laptop. I’ll probably let my roommate use it as well. I just don’t want the guy one floor up and two rooms over deciding to go get child pr0n and screwing me over when it’s tracked back through my connection.

Hah. At my school, 1 B drops you to, like, the second decile. Gotta love the crazy Asian schools.

Yup, at our school, the top 20% have 4.0+. The top 4% of our school isn’t even considering UCs >_> and they have the acceptances to match too
