As a kid, I came home from brownies telling my mom about the WONDERFUL snack another mom sent. My mom asked about it, thinking it was some great recipe (or maybe brownies, which were her specialty). I was only 6, so I had a hard time explaining the confection… Twinkies.

Mmm, funny bones! Or should I say, FunnyBones™?

I love those snoballs! How about something called a Cherry Mash? I think it’s kind of a candy bar, snackish thing. My Mom used to eat them and I would have to beg a bite, she was pretty generous with everything else, just hands off those Cherry Mash candies! Wish I knew where to find them…

How about when breakfast candy, er cereal, proudly branded itself as Sugar Frosted Flakes, Sugar Pops, and Sugar Smacks?

Yo, sabaray! Tandy Takes (now called Kandy Kakes.) What a day when I discovered the little local quick mart carries them. He makes sure they’re in stock for me. When I lived on the other coast, all my PA/NJ friends there used to talk about how much they missed them. My kids prefer Hostess, so I’m good. :)

My middle school had a cart in the cafeteria from which they sold Tastykakes! Never really had Ho Hos or Ding Dongs or Twinkies as a kid, since Tastykakes had so many types. And I still don’t think I’ve ever had anything Little Debbie. When I go to Philly on business, I’ll stop by Wawa and get a Tastykake for my kids, as god intended.

Weren’t there also Ring Dings (like a Ding Dong, hockey puck shape), Yodels (like a Ho Ho), and Devil Dogs? Or maybe those were regional?

Even as a kid, I couldn’t stand the Snoballs. I thought the icing was made of rubber cement.

Weren’t Ding Dongs called King Dongs for awhile. They haven’t been as good since they stopped wrapping them in foil. Although my son can still eat a whole box of them

I’ve never heard of most of the stuff you guys are referencing, other than Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and Little Debbies. I never liked most of those; they tasted so stale in comparison to fresh baked goods from the grocery bakery or, of course, from home. I did like the chocolate covered donuts, whatever brand and fried pies.

We had a Mom/Pop doughnut shot within biking distance of home. You could get a dozen glazed doughnuts for not much money. My brothers and I would pool our quarters and ride down there for a dozen. So much better than any of those commercial baked goods, even back in the day.

I remember making a homemade Twinkie recipe as a young adult. It’s really all about the cream filling - otherwise, why Twinkie? The spongy cake didn’t do anything for me.

I worked in our local dairy/70’s version of a convenience store as a teen (scooping ice cream cones!). I can remember that my “reward” to myself was to buy either a Hostess Cherry Pie (the individual size), a SlimJim or a bag of Lay’s Sour Cream and Onion chips to snack on after I went home.

Goo Goo Clusters!

Also I remember when we would go trick or treating and end up with a bunch of full size candy bars. :@)

Yes, Ring Dings, Yodels, Devil Dogs, and Funny Bones were Drakes’ products, a brand that was distributed in the metro New York area. I agree that they tasted better when they were wrapped in foil.

I’ve never eaten a Twinkie in my life. We usually had a homemade dessert at hand when I was growing up. After a point, for weight watching purposes, I avoided sweets at all costs and nowadays I don’t really like them anymore. Most are just to sickenly sweet.

My jr high school sold Suzy Q’s–kind if like a chicolate Twinkie version!

I know how you feel, @consolation. Since being diagnosed with diabetes, I really miss potato chips (especially BBQ potato chips).

As a child, though, I had an addiction to Swiss Cake Rolls. I had one in my lunch every day!

This thread is reminding me to put Halloween candy on my grocery shopping list! :))

I love how ironic it is that @chocchipcookie is posting on this thread
But I think oatmeal raisin cookies with chocolate chips are better than a regular chocolate chip cookie. And did I hear someone say SlimJim? God those are so good!

Since we are talking junk calories, let me mention MoonPies… Mmmm…
