The Twinkies Thread

There are just too many threads about college related topics. We need more threads about food. I’ll start with this one: I missed the original Twinkies. Who else is with me?

I’m in. I miss the days when carbs were good food.

lol @Magnetron. It’s still good to me.

An occasional twinkie never hurt anybody.

My favorite used to be devil dogs and snowballs (?) covered in raspberry & coconut and sky bar candybars. Now I find them all to be way too sickenly sweet.

Frozen Ring Dings was my thing 35 years ago. I find that the change to vegetable shortening as the main ingredient for the filling and the chocolate icing has made them slippery and unpalatable. I think they used to be less synthetic tasting, though I may have been spoiled by Tom Douglas’s triple coconut cream pies.

We still occasionally buy the Little Debbie Nutty Bars for packing in lunches.

Cheesecake

'nuff said!

:x

“An occasional twinkie never hurt anybody.”

Amatuer! I am thinking a box or two. Anyways, I am going to give a “helpful” point to everyone who commented on this very important thread. You are my kind of people. :-*

And @Magnetron, you ought to be a food writer. lol

I was always a ho ho person myself. Alas, I don’t indulge anymore…sniff.

I would have to be really hungry to crave a Twinkie. Twinkies lack a key ingredient. CHOCOLATE

Fine, call me a snob if you will.

Carbs are good.

For lunch today, I had leftover spaghetti with butter and grated parmesan cheese. Hardly a fruit or veggie in sight.

I know someone who used to work for Cravath. Tricia Nixon’s H was a partner there. She contributed a recipe to the Cravath, Swaine cookbook called Twinkie Delight. (Or maybe Delite  ) it was sort of a charlotte made from Twinkies and Kool-whip.

My other Twinkie story has to do with wanting to eat something that had no organic content. Twinkies were the closest we could come.

I love carbs. Donuts. Pasta. Bread. VeryHappy, your lunch sounds perfect to me. After a terrible day yesterday, went out for Italian. Chicken marsala with pasta. Yum.

I used to love all of that Hostess stuff - the snoballs, etc…has anyone seen where bakeries are making treats that look like the snack foods only made with high-end ingredients?

My personal favorite in the junk carbs realm was orange cupcakes. And those apple or cherry pies.

I LOVE potatoes, bread, and pasta. Can no longer eat any of the above, thanks to T2 diabetes. :(

I’m supposed to be low-carbing but all this ebola news has me reaching for the bad stuff.

Funny bones and sunny doodles were my favorites!

Um…I had a new Twinkie last week. It was fabulous! Loved it!!

I’ve actually never had a twinkie before…sheltered childhood :)

But the Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies anyone? The best ever!

How can we forget Tastykakes?

What’s the difference between a Ho Ho and a Ding Dong?
