The Ubiquitous List

Hi all,

Let me preface this by saying that I’m not trying to get a ‘chance me’ or anything, I’m just looking for another opinion.

I’m a senior this year in the middle of working on my college applications. I scored a 2140 on the SAT (730R, 700M, 710W), 33 on the ACT (35E, 34M, 34R, 30S :(, 10W), and a 750 on Math II, 730 on Physics, and a 720 on Math I. I am in the top 2% of my HS class, founder and president of math club, Eagle Scout, NJROTC cadet, varsity swimming captain, etc.

I’m applying to the following schools, but the prospect of rejection scares me (and yes, I know the quote that 100 percent of the shots you don’t take won’t go in–I play hockey). Anyways, I’m wondering if the following is a pretty safe list. Obviously the HPYM are stretches at best…but…overall, what do ya think?

First choice is Princeton. After that, in no real order:
Harvard
University of Michigan
Boston University
Yale
MIT
University of Maryland (Resident)
Naval Academy

I want to major in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Chinese. Alternatively, major in Physics with a minor in Chinese. And I’ll be applying for Navy or Air Force ROTC to every school. So yea, that’s pretty much it. Thoughts?

Thanks!

~~

Why not USAFA (since you’re thinking of USNA)? Would you be happy going to UMCP? If so then it’s a good list.

Michigan has a great aerospace engineering program, BUT you may have a difficult time minoring in Chinese at the same time. I don’t recall any of the engineering majors I know (and I happened to live in a house full of aerospace majors there) who had any minor in a different subject area.

I would say you list has 5 reaches and 2 matches on it. Maybe find a couple more matches?

I want to stay East Coast. Hence no USAFA. And honestly, the Academy lifestyle doesn’t appeal to me as much anymore. I did the Seminar for Navy, and it was fun for the week, but-it was a week.

And yea, that’s kind of what I was thinking. What would you say are the two matches? Boston University I’m legacy, which will hopefully help…

Also, I guess I don’t want to particularly minor in Chinese as much as I just want to be able to speak it (however, it’s my understanding that the amount of classes you need to truly be able to speak it is almost equivalent to a minor anyways). So not necessarily a minor…
