No, it is not considered 2 courses only 1 but for HS credit it is equal to a 1 year HS course. So you report 1 course, 1 A grade and 1 Honors point.
Thanks ! And only add 8 additional honors points (even if the student took more than 8 college courses).
Include all of them in the calculator - they will all count toward the uncapped weighted GPA, but only 8 will count for the capped weighted GPA.
I had no idea about all of this (how UCs look at each schoolâs honors courses) so this was very enlightening. It probably also explains why our high school doesnât have any 9th grade honors courses like some other schools do.
FWIW, our high school (not top Bay Area but pretty competitive) usually does pretty well with UCLA and Cal. The college counselor mentioned in a presentation recently that every single class of 2024 student who got accepted to UCLA had a 4.0 uw GPA. (Did not get into the intricacies of capped weighted!)
This link shows the applied, admitted and enrolled student numbers from each CA HS along with the average capped weighted UC GPA information. This is 2023 data and the 2024 data will be posted end of January/February 2025.
In general, all the UCâs will consider the 3 UC GPAâs, however most campuses will focus on the Unweighted and Capped weighted while UCLA/UCB will focus on the Unweighted and Weighted Uncapped as evidenced by their Freshman profile data.
