The username pronunciation thread prompts me to ask...

My mom and i are the same size as well (literally, same height, same weight, etc)… so we can share clothes if we really want to. Actually, one time i was missing this pair of really comfy pants, for like… three months. I thought i must of left them at a hotel or something… and I come home and my mom was wearing them! i gave her all these sly questions, like “oh mom, when did you get those pants… they look comfy” and she’s just like “oh i dont knwo where they came from, they just showed up in my closet one day”… as if i would of hung my pants in her closet. shakes head

My sister is a little bit smaller than us, but her feet are bigger. it’s odd.

and yes, we do have a kohl’s. like i said, i don’t normally go shopping… my stuff still fits me from years ago… and old clothes are (typically) more comfy than new clothes! I honestly couldn’t even find a way to spend all of the money my mom gave me on clothing, which is why i bought a 30 dollar chair :)

Hmmm…I tend to think or rather “hear” people as voices, much like I do when I read a book. And sometimes in the context of colors.

texastaximom,

That is rather interesting! You must be an auditory type. But, I am confused as to what you mean by “sometimes in the context of colors”?

fender,

When I can’t find one of my pairs of workout pants or jeans, the first place I look for them is in my daughters’ bedrooms! And I’m sure the reverse is true too! ~b.

Some folks sound really peppy and upbeat…yellowish. Others are very calm…blues…greens are more “wizened”…is that a word? Sage-like.

I understand what she means. For example, one of my friends told me that when he thinks of me, he thinks of the color orange… and i thought that was kind of funny, because i even have a pair of orange pants… and a small orange blanket (we keep it in the living room)…

the funny thing is, both of my parents remind me of the color orange as well. my mom actually painted our bathroom a very very bright yellow, and painted our laundry room a very bright and glossy orange. I feel like i should be doing sunglasses while getting a shower or doing laundry! that bright color just really matches her personality, which i believe is why my friend said it about me too. the same goes for my father. My mom actually bought my dad a pair of orange shorts as a joke… and he loved them! he kept wearing them with an orange tshirt and he looked so ridiculously orange that my mom took him to the mall and bought him a new shirt to go with his new shorts. it’s just his personality. there’s introvert, theres extrovert, and then there’s my father. he deserves his own catagory.

on the other hand, my little sister would be a green or a brown. she really likes to keep to herself and is pretty quiet. i’m always telling her to take some vitamins so she can have more social energy like the rest of us :)

lol fender!! I’d really like to meet your dad—and your whole family for that matter! I can just picture this brightly-clad, orange man strolling around the mall! I can see what you both mean about the colors. ~b.

“lol momof2inca! For the record, to me you are of medium height, athletic looking, tan, and blonde with shoulder-length, sort of layered hair (and very pretty!). ~berurah :-)”

berurah, just got back on here… okay, I like how you picture me, but I’m afraid it’s wrong. 5’7" (is that medium height?), brunette, short hair and not tan (had to stop enjoying our California sun after a scare with skin cancer last summer), fairly athletic.

For you, I picture thin, brunette, short hair, constantly in motion and a smile all the time.

yeah, and if you were looking at him or something, he’d probably come over and introduce himself to you. my dad has a knack for meeting anyone within a 10 foot radius. this past summer my parents were going to a car show, and they stopped at wendys on the way. at wendys they had some coupons for one dollar off admission to the car show… there was a couple of coupons on each page. once they got there, my dad was introducing himself to random people in line and giving them a coupon to save one dollar each. my mom was taking pictures at the show, and in the background of half the pictures you see my dad talking to different random people… it’s really amusing.

b - i definately picture you to be a smiley person.

momof2inca,

Hmmm…I like your description of me too! Here’s the reality: About 5’5", with an athletic, mostly toned build. I was pretty thin until after the third baby. After that, I have fluctuated some, gaining and losing the same 20 lbs. from time to time (though I lost it all completely after each baby). I had it all off once again and was the weight I was in college just before this whole dang college application process began in earnest. I haven’t worked out for the past two months, so I’m a bit up right now! I do have dark wavy hair, about shoulder length. I definitely am in more motion than I care to be most of the time lol, and I do smile alot, if only because I have a warped sense of humor and find all kinds of things amusing! You really were not so far off in your guess! I’m so glad you are fine after your skin cancer scare.

fender,

Your dad sounds an awful lot like me!! I can’t tell you how many phone numbers I’ve walked out of Wal-Mart with, and those are only from cashiers that I’d had never met before who for some reason found me “easy to talk to”. My kids lovingly ridicule me ALL THE TIME about how I never know a stranger (and how it takes me 2 hours to get out of a store for what SHOULD have been a 15-minute trip). Another funny thing is that I can say a simple “hi” to a person and ten minutes later be privy to their deepest, darkest secrets! It’s REALLY strange, but it happens time and time again. Many times I get told more than I ever wanted to know lol. I really don’t know what to make of it, but I guess that in general, I am very interested in people of all kinds, and in some way or another, it must be obvious. Your dad sounds like a fascinating character and a great man! ~berurah

I don’t think he’s came home with any phone numbers yet, but i know at the local resteraunts he seems to know everyone by their name. at christmas time he actually writes out cards to the waitresses at the place where he eats breakfast sometimes.

fender,

Oh, the restaurant thing just cracks me up!! I am the same exact way. There is this Mediterranean restaurant that my dh and I frequent. I have walked out with cakes that would have sold retail for $35.00 (tiramisu, my favorite!). Once, when I went on my dh’s birthday for a takeout, I came back with a $100.00 fly-fishing rod that the owner gave to me to take to my husband (he said he never used it!). The owner’s son is trying to figure out how to create a “berurah” button on their cash register so that he won’t have to punch our order in so often.

Another restaurant that we used to frequent (and which saw me through three pregnancies), used to pack up nearly the entire contents of the buffet for us to bring back to our kids (for free).

Still another restaurant owner sent so much food to the hospital after I had our last baby the we practically fed the whole floor! I am a major food person, and some of my best friends are restaurant people! lol

~berurah

fendergirl - your attitude toward clothes is unusual and refreshing for me to read. Now if you could just convince my D to think this way… Unfortunately, she would spend the maximum amount she could afford on clothing, but I will say she is good (but not great) at budgeting her money. Perhaps she will be less clothes conscious at university.

“wizened?” TheDad!!! Sage-like!! It fits!!

Fendergirl, do you mind telling us where you go to college? I have a feeling there are a lot of moms out there wishing their sons went there too!

My S would kill me if I ever tried any matchmaking, and he is too young for you But he also doesn’t spend very much money on clothes. He likes clothes but only if they are a great deal. His favorite store is Value Village where he finds fabulous used clothing - gently used or often new - which he wears with pride. He worked at a very upscale department store in the men’s dep’t. and knows the brands so he knows a good deal better than I do! For example he came home with a $60 tie that sold for only $2! He loves wearing the stuff to work, getting compliments from other employees, and then saying he bought it at VV!

As for casual clothes, he likes T-shirts with weird messages on them. He always gets comments about them too.

Sorry to be so off topic.

Berurah, my mental image of you was more longish skirts and fewer pairs of comfy pants.

wishitwas_april,

My son is quite similar, but I’m usually the one that finds the bargains for him! I shop at a good many thrift stores for musical theater costumes for my girls. There are often very good deals there, but Kohl’s many times has new stuff at a LESS expensive prices (clearances) than the clothing I see in thrift stores, especially the Junior League Shop, which tends to be a bit pricey (but has nice stuff). We are definitely bargain hunters around here! And lol about your son and fender! She seems like an awesome gal, doesn’t she? ~berurah

Berurah,

We don’t have Kohl’s - never heard of it until now - but Nordstrom Rack is great. The nice thing about VV is it is huge, and eveything is sorted by color. So if you need a pair of black pants you can go to your size and see about 100 different ones. Before my S could drive, I used to take him and while he shopped I’d browse. Got a suede jacket there for about $10 - I get compliments every time I wear it! Ditto on a new pair of pairs I spotted there.

I have a daughter too, and she must have gotten the good deal genes. She does very well both at thrift stores and when she buys new. Came home once with a new - still with tags - silk shirt from a thrift store.

I really should be doing something more useful than CC - maybe we need a Why Are We All So Addicted Thread LOL! I bet they’ve had them before.

lol wish! You are right, but hey, this is a harmless little addiction, right??! I really love the way VV is organized! That would help me SO much with shopping for costumes. I wish that we had one!

My son, too, likes t-shirts with weird messages, though he is afraid to wear some of them in Kansas! I recently bought him an Ebola shirt which gives a cool, short summary of the disease. Can’t wait to see the reactions to THAT one!

I love skirts on the right occasions, but for what I do, shorts and athletic wear are the order of the day! ~berurah

I am so glad to know I’m not the only person who “pictures” people.
cangel, you’ve got to be a blonde w shoulder length hair.
marite and jamimom look a lot alike - brunettes.
concerneddad is tall, thin, w/glasses, and very serious-looking.
momof2inca is tall, thin, All-American looking “PTA mom” with a big smile.
alongfortheride is brunette, looks like someone I know locally…
Weird, isn’t it??? As my S now reminds me, "you never know who is really a dirty old man sitting at the computer in his underwear "(a reversal of my stern warning to him for years so that he would not post revealing info online!!!)

wishitwas_april, my S likes off-beat t-shirts also. Try http://store.cottonfactory.com/mens-printed-tees-all.html</a></p>

Digi, you’ve got to be watching the wrong channel. I am neither wizened nor sage like. There’s a full multicolored (via nature) beard but that’s all. “Wizened” would require many fewer holidays than I’ve been taking from Atkins. I see lots of me by “type” in any crowd of high school or college parents. I standout, only perhaps, when I talk. And talk.

But wait…you’ve seen my photo and you know that I am neither sage-like nor wizened.
