If I recall correctly, Fendergirl goes to York College, in Pa. It is one of the few that I recall, because I happen to have friends in York. It is so hard to remember who goes where (for those currently in college) or, for parents, whose kids go where. There was a great thread a few weeks ago with parents posting where thye are from, but that thread is buried somewhere. If folks are not opposed to it, would you be willing to list where you are from and where you/your kid(s) go to school? And for those still waiting where you hope to go? Parents, will you also list where you went to undergrad/grad/professional school?? Would this be too self-disclosing? If not, it sure would be helpful to keep up with everyone :)

yep, youre correct. and wish - i love tshirts with weird messages on them but i have a boyfriend of almost five years, so i am sorry :)

fender,

So, one of the good ones is taken sigh. But, you can’t stop a mom from dreaming, can you? lol ~berurah

Berurah, when I wear my gray Greek fisherman’s cap, I have a certain look. I like to think of it as being a bit like Tevya (though I really look like Johnny Depp, you understand) but one day in my capacity as a real estate agent I was walking up to a client’s house with some papers and a child looking through the screen door saw me and called inside, “Mom, there’s a rabbi coming to see us!”

Tradition!

Haha The Dad. Big giggle on the rabbi story. We lived next to an orthodox rabbi in New York City so naturally you now look like him in my mind’s eye! :)

TheDad, you must be my H’s clone. Full rabbinic beard which I encouraged him to grow 8 years ago. He had to shave twice a day because his beard came in so quickly. Finally, I said “Let’s see what it would look it” and voila, in six weeks it was full. The catch is EVERYONE remembers us, every waiter, everywhere we go, “le barb” is unforgettable.

LOL TheDad!!! My own father is a rabbi (emeritus now), but he never wore a beard. My youngest daughter had her first principal role in a dinner theater production of “Fiddler on the Roof”. She played Tevye’s youngest daughter, Bielke. The Tevye in the show couldn’t have been more perfect, even though he was played by a Christian guy from Kentucky! He sure could do an incredible Russian accent, though! I think I will picture you like him from now on! ~berurah

Fendergirl, I hope he knows he’s a lucky guy! :)

Fendergirl…this is a bit off topic for this thread, but we’d like DD to look at York (even though it doesn’t fit her “warm weather criteria”). Could you email me some info that might convince her that this would be worth doing? She wants a school about that size (or a little bigger), wants to play her oboe in a school ensemble, and wants a liberal arts school.

Yes, Fendergirl, I was thinking the same when I saw you are going to York. In my book, three of the top admission deals for kids at a certain academic stats range and a tight budget without much propect for financial aid are York, Grove City, and Flagler. Grove City’s star has risen since it was recognized and given a write up in one of the national magazines a few years ago, and it is now very selective for local kids as they are now seeking more of a national student body. I don’t hear much about York and Flagler. You might want to start a thread as this is so OT.

TheDad: Now I am tryng to imagine you as a cross between Tevye and Depp. Although of course you look MUCH more like Depp! :)

berurah - you brought back warm memories tonight to me of when I was a little girl, my wonderful dad playing a bottle dancer in Fiddler on the Roof (a Christian guy also) with the bottle somehow velcroed to his head so it would not fall off!!!
“Sunrise - sunset - swiftly go the years…” so true of our children…

tabbyz…

Oh, how COOL that your dad was a bottle dancer in Fiddler!! Our dancers had the velcro thingy also. My daughter performed at a dinner theater which did a total of 40 performances. Since she was just 8 when she played the role, they double casted her, but that means she still did 20 performances! During the same period, my oldest two daughters were in the ensemble of ANOTHER production of Fiddler. I watched the show no less than 25!!! times that fall (2003), but I never could stop myself from crying at Sunrise, Sunset. It holds a whole new meaning for me now that I have a son almost ready to leave for college sigh. ~berurah

Oh berurah, I DO understand about Sunrise,Sunset relating to S as a senior…thanks for the neat story…enjoyed hearing about your daughters’ performances…

tabbyz…I’m going to try to post a couple of pics of my dd as Bielke. I’ll put the link here when I get it done! I think you will enjoy them. ~berurah

Berurah: Although I would love to see picture of your D as Bielke, it is against the rules.

A thread in the cafe was recently deleted because of this, so maybe we could find a way to get around the rule (you could put it on google, for example, and tell us which words to search with).

she can send you a private message or an email and give you the link.

yemaya13,

Well, O.K. I will not post it. ~berurah

Great idea, MotherOfTwo.
