The View tv show - got tickets - need help

After asking for tickets for the View quite awhile ago, I was surprised to finally get them in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I’m going to a “taped” show, which means it’s taped on Wed to be shown on Friday. The enclosed paper says to arrive no later then 10:45 but entrance is on a first served basis and they say they always overbook so we might not even get in even though we have tickets.

I’m looking for suggestions on when we really need to get there and any other tips. Also the address is 320 West 66th St. and looking at the map, it looks like there is nothing else around there, like a place to go to dinner afterwards. We would rather not drive anywhere from there except home. Dinner suggestions?

Oh, Kathy! My dear friend and I went nine years ago and we really enjoyed ourselves. We arrived about 9:30 to wait in line. I hope Barbara Walters is there. We were just blown away by her graciousness. During a break, she took the time to thank everyone for coming and was just lovely. She looks so fragile in person.

We ate at a restaurant called Fiorello’s between 63/64th street on Broadway. There are always tons of places. If the taping is where it was nine years ago, there is not much in that block, but lots of possibilities close by. We took the train the night before and just had a blast. Hmmm, I think it is time for a return visit to the city!

Kathie, we had a similar deal when we had tickets to The Daily Show. We were told by people to show up at least 3 hours before they let you. in.

It’s a little bit away but not a bad walk at all - one of my favorite places for lunch in the city, Hell’s Kitchen. If you like Mexican. [Hell's Kitchen - New York Restaurant - MenuPages Mexican Restaurant Search](New York Menus - New York, NY Restaurants Guide - MenuPages)

My sisters and I took my mother to see The View about 7 years ago. I do remember we had to be there about 3 hours early because its kind of like Disney World where they seem to shuffle you through endless queues before you finally get into the studio.

I also remember that there weren’t many places to eat in the area, so you might want to figure that out ahead of time.

Yes, I hope Barbara Walters is there as well. I believe 4 out of the 5 co-hosts were there that day. I was never a fan of Barbara until I saw how genuinely happy she was to meet and mingle with the audience. She is quite petite and teeters around just like my 80 year old mother. I don’t believe the others made much effort to mix with the audience. Overall, it was a very fun trip.

You’ll be one long block away from Lincoln Center -there are lots of restaurants in the area. Cafe Luxembourg, at 70th & Broadway, is quite good.

I really didn’t want to hear that we would have to wait in line for three hours! I’ve done the Daily Show twice (and have tickets for that again next month), but what confuses me about The View is that, tomorrow they do two shows - the live one first and then the taped one.

I’m concerned that the people that get bumped from the live one will be put ahead of us into our queue. The live show is done at 11 am and my sheet says that we are to arrive no later then 10:45 am for the 12:45 taping. We live a little less then two hours away and one of my brave friends is willing to drive. If we get there just an hour before 10:45, at 9:45, that means that we would leave at 7:45 and that’s going to put us smack in the middle of the commuters. ugh.

Assuming we survive the drive and get in the show, I’m thinking it might be fun to go to Zabars afterwards. I’ve never been there but have wanted to go and it looks like a 15 minute walk. <a href=“Zabar's Store on Broadway - NYC”>Zabar's Store on Broadway - NYC; Anyone have any opinions on that?

Zabar’s is fabulous, but more of a place to buy food to take home than to eat in. That said, they do have a small area where you can sit. They have some of the best breads in the world - I would kill right now for a loaf of their seeded rye! Make sure to check out the upstairs if you’re in the market for cookware - their prices are excellent.

I’m thinking of Zabar’s more of a something to do then a place to eat. We should be done with the show around 2, which gives us a few hours to kill if we want to do more then just drive home. We would go there, snoop around and then eat, maybe here: [Good Enough to Eat, New York City Restaurant](http://goodenoughtoeat.com/) or maybe your suggestion or emilybee’s. However, the weather for tomorrow looks not-so-good, with showers and rain in the forecast. One thing I know we won’t want to do is walk around a lot in the rain!

Hi Kathiep:

If memory serves me right, we were at Zabar’s a couple of years ago and ate at a typical NY Deli restaurant, diagnally across the street. I believe the one I’m thinking of is called Artie’s Deli, [Artie’s Delicatessen](http://www.arties.com) and the food was typical NY style Deli, which was delicious and huge portions. I believe Zabar’s was also next to a Bagel Shop that we stopped at to take some fresh bagels back home.

We’ve been to a taping of the David Letterman show, but never the View…sounds like fun! Enjoy!

Sounds like you are going to sit next to my old office. @:D@

We never bothered to get tickets to the taping as it goes on everyday and we can see any one of them from behind the cameraman. Dinner is always home, not make enough to eat in those fancy ones.

Well, its been a while…

Anyway if you have a big apitite,

[Carnegie Deli | Home](http://www.carnegiedeli.com/home.php)

is the landmark in New York Deli. Its a bit far to walk, but food is always good…

kathie, I’ve never been to a taping of the View but from experience at other NY shows, I would advise not to be later than the stated time or you may not even get to line up. The shows that were broadcast/taped at Rockefeller Center would close down the line at the designated time (this was several years ago, admittedly). Even if you were in the line, people often did not actually get in, which is why they do not guaranteed admission. We were always in the reserved guest group (no lining up) at Rock shows (the group that the people in line hate!) and that group gets in first and gets the best seats. The # of remaining seats would be dependent on the number of reserved seats for that particular day. I don’t know if things are handled the same way for the View but it wouldn’t surprise me. One piece of advice if you’re driving into the city is to know exactly where you’re going to park prior to leaving home. Don’t wait to get into the city then start looking for a parking garage. Same with your directions, have that all planned out. I don’t know if you’ve driven in the city before but be aware of the one way directions in the area to which you’re heading so that you don’t waste time by missing a turn and having to make a large circle around because of the one ways. Have fun!

artlovers, the Carnegie would only be about 10 blocks from there. That’s a short walk in Manhattan!

Thanks for the tips. I certainly wouldn’t get there later then the stated time, but I also do not want to get there hours earlier then needed. The taping is not until 12:45 - 1:00 and they say two conflicting things, “Recommended arrival time: NO LATER than 10:45” and then “We recommend you arrive to our studio NO LATER then 11:15”. My thought was that a 9:30, 9:45 arrival would cover that. On the directions it mentions parking garages on West End Avenue between 66th and 67th streets. I’ll take my GPS.

Not sure about the deli recommendations. None of us are big eaters and I generally don’t like sandwiches. Not that I don’t appreciate the recommendations. My husband would love a good deli!

If you have the chance, go to a Crumbs cupcake shop and pick up some at the end of your day. They are to die for honestly, I am drooling just thinking about the cappuccino one. There’s a bunch of locations around midtown. [Cupcakes - Crumbs Bake Shop - Store Locations](http://www.crumbs.com/locations/)

Oh, you only counted the street blocks, but you did not realize the avenue blocks. see, the studio is at west end and carnegie deli is at 7th ave. If you look at the map, its a 6 avenue block hike and that is almost half the width of mahattan.

Well, only if you consider 1.2 mile walk in middle of the neight short.

Not to mention that at this point the Carnegie is way past its prime, and the prices (and portion sizes) are ridiculous. Katz’s is much better, but it’s in a completely different part of the city.

artlovers, I absolutely did take into account the avenue blocks. I have lived in the city and visit several times a year, I know the city well. First of all, West End to 7th isn’t a six block distance. Secondly, it’s less than a mile and would be in the afternoon. Not sure why you think they’d be doing it in the middle of the night!

I wasn’t the one who recommended the Carnegie anyway and I’d never choose it if I wanted a deli. Was simply commenting on the walk!

That is throwing me off, i thought it was dinner recommendation! And later on in another post, op said it is 10am…

anyway, my recommendation maybe off, no longer live there. Yahoo map said its 1.2 miles though.

Gosh, I think nothing of walking 30 to 40 blocks in the city and there are also these things called cabs. ;)

I am back. Our trip was successful with just a little glitch. We used my GPS but it took us to EAST 66th Avenue instead of West 66th. We didn’t realize it until we were all parked. Fortunately, it wasn’t that big a deal to get a cab to quickly take us the 1 1/2 miles across the park (plus a few blocks). We were in line by 10:30, which did put us towards the back. 10:00 would have scored us closer seats. The traffic and the bad parking cost us some time. (oh well!)

The show was fun. We all got what they call “a years supply” of honey bunches of oats cereal and Whoppi’s new book. The cereal was really 24 coupons, but they’re each good for up to $4.49 so that is pretty nice and my son is a huge cereal eater so this will be his new favorite.

After the show we were all really hungry since none of us had had anything but a bowl of cereal at 7 am and it was now 2:30. Taping was from about 1 to about 2, but it took awhile to get the crowd out. This is why I wanted restaurant suggestions - for linner (lunch+dinner). We ended up going here: [Josie NYC :: Josie’s West](http://www.josiesnyc.com/josie_west/josie_west.html) It was tasty. We shared a slice of warm chocolate pecan pie with a scoop of ice cream and it was the best part of the meal!

We left the city around 4:45 and traffic was pretty bad before the tunnel but not so bad once we got on the other side. Home by 7:30.

I have done the Black Friday thing a few times and being able to sit made huge difference. Get there early, bring folding chairs and send someone for coffee. And resolve to have fun, regardless of what happens.

I would love to bring my son to the Daily show.
