Has anyone heard of getting rejected from a school and then later getting an email from the same school asking if we wanted to go on the waitlist?

Got an email from Philips Andover today morning asking to confirm if i still wanted to be on the waitlist. Not reading too much into it. Looks more like a head count after the A10 movements.

They are saying that they have reached their enrollement target. You submit Waitlist Notification Form if you want to stay in their waitlist throughout summer

The waitlist notification I received from Andover mentioned that the admissions office is currently evaluating the waitlist. Does this mean the fall class is currently full, or are there still openings available?

I do not know. My kids did not apply to Andover.

Waitlisted for both Andover and Choate. Different approach by schools based on the emails today. Choate is done. Just a waitlist addition for the summer. Andover gave till the 19th to confirm if you still want to be on the waitlist.
Not sure why Andover is playing the long game. Groton and Exeter confirmed quickly there were done by A10.

I recently completed a significant project which I started after the submission of my application to Andover. Should I email the admission team with this update?

I mean (i’m not that knowledgeable so plz don’t quote me on this) you should if you want to! it’ll definitely not hurt your chances, and it might help you :slight_smile:

It can’t hurt, but it likely won’t matter. As many have noted, much of this is beyond your control meaning in the unlikely event that they have a spot, they will have a certain profile they are seeking to fill, such as a female, who is diverse, and from outside the Northeast, and either you are a fit or or you are not.

There is one small downside, and that is the fact that you are still hopeful. My DD is set for next year, but we went through this in the past, and remaining on the waitlist lengthened the period of torment, prior to accepting the outcome. So there is a psychic cost so to speak.

Just because I’m a curious cat who enjoys data, it’s been interesting to me, to go back through the wait list posts here from the past few years, and seeing when Andovers “full” email went out; at least to some general population of applicants that shared here.

I realize that some cohorts may receive different full status emails. And these data are just those as reported on this post specifically that came up in keyword search, so take it with some salt.

2024 - 4/16 request for WL confirmation as they’re still evaluating.
2023 - 4/13 full. Not going to WL
2022 - 4/11 full
2021 - 4/10 full
2020 - 4/16 full
2019 - ?4/9? full
2018 - ?
2017 - apparently over enrolled, presumably around 4/10
2016 - ? anecdotally noted as emailed full sometime around 4/26 in past years
2015 - 4/10 full
2014 - 4/16 full

not really surprising. I’m guessing Andover’s yield is extremely high (wild guess - 85%?)

Not surprised that they’re usually full, high yield, but interesting that this year seems a little different and later with the general full notice. In reply to another post commenting on the later notification as well. Seems to suggest more wait list use than in years past or just a decision to hang on to larger WL pool longer than in years past.

Ie schools have said they’re done and full, but ask about a summer WL. Andover hasn’t said that yet, at least as known to several folks who shared here. And it looks like that is different than in the past. Each year brings new and different needs of course and strategies change.

I am also on the Milton WL for day school. I sent my admissions officer an LOCI last week, however no response yet. I hope it’s just because they’re busy. The email was quite long though and I included assets for my app., so I guess it’s understandable that they haven’t responded.

You should expect no response to a LOCI. There’s nothing to say other than it was received

Oh I thought they might respond saying “That sounds great”, or smt but that does make sense.
