The Wait List

I turned down Deerfield so at least one person is getting off their waitlist

That’s not how it works, since Deerfield, like all schools, projects how many students will decline the offer. That’s called yield. It’s only when more students decline than were planned will they go to the WL.

It sounds like Exeter’s “full” emails go out earlier than Andover’s?

Random question to the forum: if you had a choice between PRISMS and PDS, which would you choose? (I could only find a discussion thread that mostly talked about Peddie)

PDS – more well rounded— great matriculation, sports, and the arts. 100%

oh my bad

Should we take lack of “full” emails to WL students as they’re still filling spots, or just assume they’ve closed the main round already and only summer movement at this point? Haven’t received any summer WL confirmation emails from 3 WL schools.

If the school hasn’t said the WL is closed, then they’re likely anticipating some movement. You, however, should plan as if the WL is closed

Thanks, yes, daughter is fully engaged in her accepted school. I’m just wondering about whether there could be general movement still now, seems later than usual. In terms of when the next shoe drops so to speak. She’s fortunately not expecting anything, but especially over summer.

I know this is a late response, but yes, I assume the grade you are applying to matters. My child applied to two similarly sized schools as Deerfield as a rising 10th grader (class size of ~120ish, so a bit smaller; ISL day schools with limited boarders). We were pleasantly surprised he was accepted to both schools since both generally accept five to ten 10th graders (during the interviews, the one we selected confirmed this year would be only five). Unlike Deerfield, they both start in middle school, so their “easiest” years for acceptance are 7th grade and 9th grade. One gives general admitted class sizes on their Website (for 11th grade, they generally accept ONE and none for 12th). Best of luck to your child in finding a great school for them!

Hear anything from Andover since that WL confirm request? We called admissions and they just said they’re still working on WL and have no updates, didn’t ask us for a name or any specifics, so pretty general answer. Just seems different than in other years regarding “full. Not likely going to WL”.

They opened a second round of admission- due date end of May. Check their website.

Huh, apply to be on their waitlist. I’ve never heard of a school doing that.

Interesting. So they have a slew of WL that apparently meet the specs but not the right buckets for this year?? But they haven’t closed the WL door yet either

From admissions site.

“Candidates for Fall 2024 are still able to complete the application process until May 31, 2024 . Please know that we are fully enrolled and candidates who apply after our February 1 deadline will be considered for spaces on our waiting list.”

I feel like that is an entire mood. And I bet they get applications!

Andover allows for a second round of late application. It’s based on availability and I’m not sure how it works with waitlist from the initial application process. My guess it’s a lot of athletes that get in on the second round.

Andover has done it for years.

Can we apply for second round even after rejection? Just wondering?

I believe it’s limited to new applicants
