Whatever is happening for other people on the WL doesn’t matter for you until you either get an offer of admission or are told the WL has been closed. They may no longer need boys or day students but if you’re a girl boarder the WL is still active. (Every now and then, a school will not communicate the close of its WL, but most do.)
Today was the response date for admitted students so movement should begin soon for schools that have space. This happens in dribs and drabs because the kid who gets into X off the WL creates a vacancy at Y. Put differently, there is no M10 for WL.
At some point, you may be asked if you want to be on the extended WL, meaning that you are open to a call in July or Aug if someone who was enrolled backs out (sickness, finances, visa, etc.)
But this is all to say that you need to sit tight for now. Hearing nothing means nothing. Good luck!
waitlisted to exeter 10th grade boys. Has anyone heard news with anything? its past A10 with no email/notification which should theoretically mean they didn’t over admit this year, right?
Im WL for exeter 10 girls, and I haven’t received an email or anything yet. April 10th is the decision day for the admitted students, so now since admissions know who isn’t going, they have to meet again and discuss who they are now going to get off the waitlist. Like, if a guy boarder says no, then they have to discuss which guy boarder to admit off the waitlist, and etc. It’s based off of who they need to fill their spots, ykwim. I think they will go to waitlist this year, because if otherwise I feel like they would have sent an email saying they overenrolled- so fingers crossed!
omg thank you! it is just a comment but it made my mood better — I had never applied to US before and didn’t know how it works. I thought that on April 11th waitlist students would receive acceptance letters - I didn’t now the admission committee didn’t decide who to accept.
It is very specific. Which is both heartening and scary because it’s completely dependent on being in the “bucket” they need. You could be the 2nd best trumpet player in the world, but if #1 just said yes, then it’s almost certainly going to be a no for you. Conversely, if the 1st best trumpet player in the world picks a different option, your chances of getting in skyrocket. And the buckets are manifold: day student/boarder, athletes, arts, demographics, and so on.
I just called Exeter and the lady I spoke to had been given no information either way as to whether they are going to their waitlist this year. She seemed to indicate that they were analyzing it and would be coming up with a point of view shortly, but nothing at the moment.
No, it does not. It means she hasn’t been given any guidance by her superiors whether there will be a wait list or not and that they are sorting it now. She said if you were to be pulled from the waitlist you would be contacted by phone and email. For any grade.
Hotchkiss emailed today to say the waitlist is basically closed – classes full – but at the same time they have a summer waitlist:
“I write to update you on the status of our Waiting List. Currently all of the classes entering this fall have been filled, and our enrollment for September 2025 is settled. If we have attrition in the weeks ahead, we will review those applicants on our summer waitlist for consideration.”
What was the issue? I saw in an email that we needed to respond by A15 if we wanted to remain on the waitlist, but I wasn’t aware that the response date was lengthened for admitted students as well
That’s horrible news. Especially considering that in high school, your life has barely started. It makes sense that they would extend the commitment date.
I think I saw someone saying smt about Bekrshire waitlists almost everyone:sob: I’m a 10th grade girl boarder applicant currently on waitlist, and I’m rlly anxious about it… is this true guys??
