Hi guys I was waitlisted at Choate and had some questions about the waitlist. I know there’s a waitlist thread, but I just wanted to ask about Choate specifically.
I’ve looked through quite a few posts here and in other communities, but I haven’t seen many people getting admitted off the Choate waitlist compared to other BS like Andover or Deerfield.
I also heard that Choate admitted around 345 students last year, but closer to 300 this year, so I thought maybe there’s a higher chance of waitlist movement—but I’m not sure if that’s actually true. But at the same time, I’ve also heard that Choate admitted quite a lot of people this year, so I’m kinda confused now 
So I was wondering if anyone has experience being admitted from the Choate waitlist, or is there (almost) no hope? Also (tho it’s kind of late) would there be any more tips on getting off the waitlist except loci
I understand that it can vary a lot depending on the year and grade, but I’d really appreciate any insight.

Don’t have Choate-specific information, but would caution about looking at last year’s results. There was more movement from international students due to the political kerfuffle than normal.
Things should be clearer after next week, I would guess.

Oh I see
Choate just sent out a waitlist update stating that they’ve reached their enrollment target, so I’m assuming this is the end of the road for us with Choate.

Same goes for Hotchkiss although they did say their was some movement on the summer waitlist last year.
Taft sent an email to fill out a form for if you’d still like to be on the waitlist
You should only assume a WL is closed when you hear it from the school. They may be fully enrolled for boys and for day students, but the WL may be open for girl boarders. Likewise, when they say to you they are fully enrolled, you can safely assume that it’s fully over.
With that said, when others hear directly from the school that they are fully enrolled, that’s generally a good indicator that the process is winding up at that school.

Update: I received an offer from Cate this morning and got off the waitlist!!

May I ask when you received when you received the email from them? And (feel free to not answer this one lol), but are you a boy/girl? Gardenstategal made an interesting point below that they may close it for boys but not girls or vice versa, so wondering if they’re only sending it to some and not others. Thank you!
