For an “elite” institution as Penn to string along a group of 18 year old students for months without any update since July 31 is totally without class. It is very sad to see. It is a sign of the times where colleges are truly run with a corporate mentality. If a spot opens due to some unfortunate situation where an enrolled student must withdraw… then someone on this list will hear. It will be too costly to leave a bed open without tuition. It seems as though we have been maintained on a list for economic backup only, otherwise we all would have been politely contacted at this point. Good luck to all. I am heartbroken by this journey. Hopefully someone at Penn will see this thread and truly understand what their choice of non-action has made all of us go through and feel.</p>
<p>Excuse me, but this is nuts. trackie, you are depressed because you “have” to go to Tulane? Give me a break! Even after the recent catastrophe, New Orleans is one of the coolest places on Earth (and now it comes with almost limitless public service opportunities, too). Tulane is fantastic, and it’s a great university. I’m not saying that it’s “better” than Penn, or that you can’t prefer Penn to Tulane, but there is absolutely, positively no reason in the world to be sad about going to a great college in a great place. I predict by March you will be thanking your lucky stars that Penn didn’t lure you away from there.</p>
<p>No one is forcing any of you to stay on the waitlist. If it’s getting in the way of your life, let it go. Really. The infinitessimal chance that a slot will open up in the next two weeks and you will get it isn’t worth losing the chance to get psyched about the great opportunities you DO have, right now.</p>

<p>i didn’t mean i was actually depressed. just that i’d hoped to actually know by now, for 100% sure, where i’m going to college. that i’d maybe know by my birthday where i was going to college. not that i was going to be unhappy at tulane - i am sure i will love it, and i’ve never heard of anyone who doesn’t love it there.</p>
<p>i think you should give us a break. not trying to be rude or anything, but for most of us, penn was our number one choice, and it’s really hard, mentally and emotionally, to still be told “we don’t know” at the beginning of august, especially when the letter said we were supposed to hear at the end of july. </p>
