Harvard/Princeton/Yale - for top elite high class rich kids whose parents are either CEOs of a huge company or are Senator or Governor of a State.

All other Ivys - for borderline middle/high class kids with exceptional talent/intelligence

Stanford - for middle class kids with exceptional talent/intelligence (and Asian)

UC Berkeley/UCLA/UCSD/USC - for very smart middle class kids (and Asian)

All other UCs - for middle class kids who’s shown an above average intelligence level during high school (and Asian)

lol UT is probably the most liberal school in Texas…not saying too much, I know, but a ton of the ppl there are democrats and supposedly 1/3 of the kids are gay. Not your average republican campus.

lol saw that coming…i’m saying hardcore republican schools are usually NOT full of gay people and are not usually diverse. please don’t twist words. In Texas, if you’re looking for a more liberal environment and you’re not planning on leaving the state for college, you go to UT. That’s my point.

all the harvard-going kids i know are getting at least some financial aid. 2 got full rides–one of them was abused as a child by his parents and went to a high school with the highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation. and he wasn’t a minority.

dhl3, i disagree with your Harvard/Princeton/Yale statement. i know some kids who are going to Harvard on full need-based scholarships because their parents do not fit that criteria.

you asked us if we agreed. so we expressed our disagreement. it’s people like you who perpetuate ignorant stereotypes about colleges and other things. go find a better use for your time.

UCs suck anyway. The only reason, and the ONLY reason I’m looking at UCs is because of instate tuition which isn’t that much cheaper than going out of state…seriously.

The approximate like $10k savings is COMPLETELY not worth it…because staying in California for college will SUCK OUT MY SOUL!!!

Anyway if I end up at a UC somehow, I’m going to start working on my transfer application to UVa. I’m SO sick of California. Everyone here’s conceited, rich and pretentious…especially SoCal. It’s an impersonation of the OC.

UCs suck anyway. The only reason, and the ONLY reason I’m looking at UCs is because of instate tuition which isn’t that much cheaper than going out of state…seriously.

You cant be serious. Oh but you are. go back to the east coast where people are pretentious like you.

Yes, but futurenyustudent goes around broadcasting this opinion without ANY justification whatsoever. I can understand that he doesn’t want to attend a UC because of location (strangely enough, much of Stanford’s appeal lies in the fact that it’s in CALIFORNIA, but anyway…). The problem is that he consistently disparages the schools as terrible, which they are undoubtedly NOT.
His opinions don’t help anyone on CC…while heavily biased posters such as Byerly back up their opinions with reasons and data, all futurenyustudent can seem to say is “UCs suck”, “I hate California”, and “I hate Asians.”

Not everyone finds California appealing. Having lived in CA, and in New York for three years before that, I find CA absolutely repulsive and unappealing and I continue to find New York more and more appealing.

Want my justification? I’ll give it to you. UCs are heavily focused on grad studies and science/engineering majors, and I plan to do neither. Well, then why THE HELL should I go to Berkeley when I’m 99.9999% sure that I’ll like AND get a better education in business in UVa or UMichigan (with obviously more focus on undergrads)? If you can give me three valid reasons why (and NO, instate tuition is ABSOLUTELY NOT A VALID REASON, and NEITHER IS LOCATION because I don’t see ANY APPEAL in living in CA…too laid back and too slow for my taste) I should pick a UC over UVa or UMichigan which fit my needs better.
