What does it even mean? “Leadership” conferences… “leadership” programs… “leadership” awards… sometimes with the word “prestigious” preceding it, sometimes not… Maybe if I understood it, it wouldn’t make me shudder. Anyone care to explain what goes on at these “leadership” things?

learn to LEAD PEOPLE. be a leader. a DICTATOR. a delegator of tasks. a coordinator … it has a super-positive connotation, if you haven’t notice

this might be one of the things IK would call a moral axiom. but i could definitely be wrong

be glad it makes you gag. any bulimic would die to have what you do.

Leader = Tyrant.

There are positive aspects of leadership that don’t have anything to do with authority, dominance and control such as:

Leading by example, setting a tone and quality that others aspire toward;

Showing natural leadership, where people look to you for advice/guidance;

Demonstrating intellectual leadership through analytical rigor, boldness and accomplishment that serves as a benchmark for others;

Etc.

I think when colleges ask for examples of leadership in an applicant this is more often than not what they are referring to.
