The Worst College Campuses You Have Seen...

I agree Bard looked like a (rundown) summer camp.

But no one goes to NYU looking for a bucolic campus. You go for the rush of NYC, the proximity and accessibility of music, art, theatre, restaurants, commerce, diversity, power. Any kind of any of those you want. Much more than Columbia or Barnard which are far way in Uptown sequestered enclaves.

Wait…I feel a song coming on…

“if I can make it there, I’ll make it any where, it’s up to you, New York, New York.”

“Ironically, the library at the Peabody is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and beautiful in the country. Seriously, how many college libraries are routinely rented out for weddings ? The library web page even has a “Gift Shop” link for “Peabody Library Merchandise”.”

Oh yeah, but it’s not really part of the Conservatory even though it’s included on the tour. It’s actually open to the public.

When I mentioned to the guide that it looked like a movie set, she said a short scene in “Sleepless in Seattle” was filmed there and it also was the inspiration for the library in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”

Most music conservatories, like New England Conservatory, aren’t really typical college campuses…

Definitely. When you consider NYU, you can’t look at the campus as just the land the buildings are on. The real NYU campus is New York City, which I personally think is amazing.

don9992–false. The George Peabody Library falls under the Sheridan Library System of the Johns Hopkins University it is a Johns Hopkins Library, and is open to the public just like any other Johns Hopkins Library, however only those with IDs can utilize any of the material, which falls under special collections and archives. Of course it does not belong to the Conservatory–everything belongs to the university, it’s a research library. It’s not even a music library.

No college I have ever seen can compete with Texas Tech for sheer ugliness.

I’m suprised no one mentioned Temple. While it is in Philadelphia it’s location is absolutely awful, the buildings may be nicer than those at Drexel but the surrounding area is very unsafe.

Colorado State University, unless you’re a fan of concrete. Fort Collins, however, is a very attractive city.

which University is this?

university of michigan was pretty bad… worst for me

hoho

par72 ain’t gna be happy witchu :)

U Dub is known for its horrible, gulag-like dorms. However, the rest of the campus is beautiful. You can see Mount Rainier from it.

Although I loved the Hopkins campus, the surrounding area makes it a lot worse.

MIT is hideous.

ummm not really. The actual campus of Temple is very, very attractive. The surrounding area is getting better and better as Temple has spent millions buying up rundown land to rebuild.

Drexel is uglier.

Others:
Miami FL (ew), Northeastern (double ew), Seattle U (triple ew).

The worst 2 campuses I’ve seen (a tie imo) are Drexel and Rider. Rider looks like a bunch of psychiatric hospitals strung together. I also didn’t like Wesleyan when we visited.

Personally I think Penn’s campus is beautiful. Perelman quad esp, plus the whole of Locust Walk…much prettier than Columbia or Brown or even Harvard but not Yale. Don’t like the new Wharton bldg on 38th though…yuck.

I have to add Dartmouth to Harvard, schools you think will bowl you over, but don’t. It’s nice but people on CC go gaga over it and I don’t see it. I think Penn’s prettier.

B05TON, what’s wrong with Northeastern and Seattle?

I wasn’t too impressed with JHU, but I from what I’ve heard from friends that go there, the academics and people make up for the campus.

I’ve been to Illinois State U before too (and stayed in a dorm for a week) and agree with a previous poster - completely utilitarian and bland. The dorm was really kind of grimy (especially on the basement and ground levels) and the rooms were kind of average but with LOUD air conditioners. Ugh.

UMD College Park is okay, but it IS red brick everywhere, which I guess could get old.

I found Northwestern beautiful but kind of mismatched and imposing.

Shenandoah University isn’t anything to write home about either. The main sign of the college is next to a Bob Evans sign and the Bob Evans sign is bigger. lol. Also, it is perpetually home to MASS amounts of Canada geese and all the sidewalks are always covered in goose poop.

SU’s campus is just a flat-out dump. See all the other comments. Northeastern’s ‘campus’ is just incredibly out of place and fake looking.

I didn’t see any other comments regarding SU, though I’ve heard rumors of it being a dump. But my family that lives in Seattle has nothing but good things to say about it. So not sure?
