Theater Education

Does anyone have experience/thoughts to share on schools for obtaining a BA in Theater Education? Thanks!

What state does the student want to start their teaching career in? That will determine the coursework and exams (Praxis, etc.) needed for licensure.

Not sure - only a few schools have this specific program, like Emerson and College of Charleston. She might have to get a Masters in Teaching too (which is fine)

Check out Ithaca College and Furman University.

What type of degree does her HS theater teacher have? An undergrad theater major at a college or university that has a teacher prep program could lead to state certification. One of my sibs did that back in the stone age. A theater major followed by an MAT could also work, and would be a good idea in ssome states that expect a master degree within a certain number of years. For teaching at a community college (or even many colleges and universities), an MFA would be the grad degree to get.

Her HS theater teacher is a more traditional English teacher who also studied theater. I don’t know what her masters degree is in (and is required in our state). NYU seems to have a very nice program as well.
