I was wondering about when different schools rehearse their plays, especially at schools with a high sports requirement. Do plays happen in the afternoon at the same time as sports? Do they rehearse in the evenings? During class time?

I’m most curious for Deerfield, Milton, Blair, Episcopal, Hotchkiss, Concord and Middlesex. I know that some people say Choate is good for the arts, but I really don’t like that school. Sorry!

I love sports and theater, and I’ve heard that at boarding school you can’t really do both.

I don’t know about those schools in particular, but I know that schools generally put on more than one play a year. Theater kids who are also into sports usually do theater when their sport is not in season. Peddie allows thearer to count as a sport requirement. I don’t think anyone could have the time to do both at once.

I think practice usually meets after school, probably at the same time as sports practice. Play might even a bigger commitment.

One cannot play a sport and do a play in the same season–they generally are both time commitment hogs and practice/rehearse at the same time (after classes, before study hall). But, a “renaissance” student can play a sport in the fall and do a play in the winter or spring, or some other mix, so long as it is in different times of the year.
