Well, I’m about to put my Chase Utley shirt on.
Saw a piece on the local news today…the wife gave a tour of their center city condo. Her closet is bigger than my MBR. And she has about 50 pairs of jeans all neatly folded (said she used to work at Gap).
Anyway, GO PHILLIES! Love that Pedro. Take it to 7!!!

I have my Phillies sweatshirt on. I’m about to put last year’s World Series tshirt on the Golden Retriever. Maybe that will help… Not sure my nerves are ready for the Phillies tonight.

The count down is on! It’s pinstripes all the way! Yay to the Yankees!

Congrats, Yankee fans!

"I’ll be the woman in the throwback 1961 Yankees wool jacket leading the “Who’s your Daddy?” cheers from the second level "

I am SURE I heard you chanting at the stadium all the way out here in NJ! Surely, Pedro heard you…thanks for helping our team win.

Please, please post a report of what it was like seeing the Yankees win their 27th at their new home.

Congratulations to the World Champion New York Yankees!

Well, I have just arrived home from the Stadium.

It was truly remarkable being there tonight. The mood was electric. Since we do not sit in “celebrity row,” but with the “real” fans, we stood for a good deal of the game. I was disappointed that we did not have a chance to give a last “Who’s Your Daddy” chant to Pedro since he was removed with little fanfare at the end of the 4th inning. I don’t know why, but I had a gut instinct about Matsui and actually filmed the pitch that he hit for a home run. It landed a few sections from where we sit. Everyone was “high fiving” everyone who was sitting near them when anything exciting happened. The place went nuts when the first strains of “Enter Sandman” were played with one out in the 8th. I filmed Mariano’s entry, of course. Everyone was singing “We Are The Champions” at the conclusion of the game and the nicest thing was that they set up a podium and presented the World Championship trophy on the field rather than in the locker room as I have always seen it done previously.

The players ran around the circumference of the field carrying flags and high fiving any of the fans they could reach. Very few people left the Stadium when the game actually ended. The team stores and kiosks within the Stadium immediately started selling World Championship merchandise.
When we finally got out onto the street, which was probably almost an hour after the game ended, the streets were mobbed with people chanting various slogans, including very appropriate ones such as “Boston s*cks!” LOL People were in the streets all through the Bronx banging on pots and pans and generally keeping the whole borough awake. I think it’s time for a few hours sleep now and I will post more in the a.m. if I can think of anything interesting.

Congrats, all you Yankee people.

Next year in Philadelphia.

Momof3sons, thanks so much for such a fun and vivid description–no doubt you’ve passed your writing skills on to your lucky boys!

I just printed out your post describing the Final Game for my DH and my D.

momof3, sounds like you had a wonderful night. Those are memories that you will keep forever. I have similar memories of Game 6 in '93, a game that our entire family attended. Our hometown Jays were down 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, against the Phillies!, when Joe Carter hit a 3 run homer to end the game and win the Series for the Jays. I think that was only the second time that a WS ended in that way. There was bedlam in the Skydome and no one wanted to leave.
Such fun.

Enjoy your celebration, Yankee fans!

alwaysamom, that Joe Carter home run is sooooo famous! It is constantly replayed in highlight films.

Sounds like a great experience! Nice that they got to win at home.

but, wait until next year . . .

kind of you to share your first hand account…even VERY late at night before your short nap before dawn.

DH and I shared the win in front of newish flat screen but without the DS who shared the last one with us 9 years ago. We had to settle for cell phone, email remote ‘sharing’ since he’s watching up in Conn now at school.

Some people think baseball is dead in America. I beg to differ. Our family connects through it and with it and probably always will.

MUST we talk about that Joe Carter home run a day after the Phillies lose their throne?

Yankees had better pitching…no doubt about it. I hear Godzilla is up for grabs…I’m hoping the Phils grab him to bolster their very weak bench.

Anyway, I’m thinking of Poltergeist…

We’ll be back…

I agree that baseball is not dead, musicmom. DH and I were also at Game 2 and my cell phone rang within 10 seconds after Ryan Howard trapped that ball at first and the umpires blew the call. It was DS #1, who lives in Chicago, to tell me that the ball hadn’t been caught. Last night, DS #2 called from home to find out how loud it was, so I just held up the phone for him!
Our family of 5 has a very strong connection through America’s past time. I don’t know what I’m going to do until pitchers and catchers report…

momof3–Thank you for letting us Yankee fans live the moment of triumph. I can just imagine the excitement and joy.

I live very near Cooperstown. I know some of the players (both sides) will be there someday.

Pitchers and catchers, pitchers and catchers, yes, indeed, it’s almost February, isn’t it??
