Theeeee Yankees

These games have been so good that I’m all for stretching this out as long as possible.

And can I say how happy I am to have found other baseball fans. America’s pastime or not, sometimes it feels like a dying sport.

I’m kind of hoping for a Yankee loss tonight - but only so they can win the series at home. To tell you the truth, I was a little shocked that Burnett won last week. I heard Posada is going to catch.

Good grief. I think I have a few more gray hairs after that game!

NOT a pretty game for either side.

Well, Momof3Sons, it’s all in your hands now…hopefully you get to see the Yankees turn back into the Yankees on Wed nite.

Old man Pettitte again probably, Pedro and the battle of the bullpens.
Should be interesting.

Scary game. I loved when the Phillies were up by six runs but had to hide my face when the Yankees started piling up the come-back runs. We’re pretty good at away games though!

Pretty typical Phillies game. The Phillies had a great record in one-run games this year, but what that doesn’t tell you is that a lot of those wins were three- or four-run leads that turned into one-run victories in the late innings. It was great to see Ibanez finally bounce one off a sign again – it’s been a while. And Chase Utley . . . how amazing is it that he’s tied Reggie Jackson for most home runs in a single series, with a chance to get more?

I’m a little afraid of Texeira, though. It seems unlikely that the highest-paid player in baseball can get through six or seven games looking as ineffectual as he has looked so far.

That game gave me a heart attack. I, too, was comfortable when the lead was 6 runs. The Phillies make everything difficult.
I hate to say this, but I don’t see them winning the next two. I can always hope, though.

MofWC - I thought I could hear you cheering last nite!

We have such mixed feelings in this house. DH’s best friend and wife were die-hard Phillies fans. Went to Florida to see spring training every year, went to many of their home games, wore his Phillies garb to watch all games at home (also applies to Eagles). Last Feb, Fred passed away and DH has been watching Phillies for him all season. On the other hand, DH is a northern NJ boy who grew up with his Mickey Mantle, Roger Marris baseball cards and loved going to Yankee games. So we are having a great, but emotional, time watching.

I’m really rooting for the Phillies to win game 6 and force a game 7 on Thursday night, as I will be in New York on Thursday night. It would be fun to see how New York reacts to a World Series victory (or loss).

I think (hope) Pedro is going to come through. I would love a game 7!

Can anyone tell me why they picked a Canadien to sing the National Anthem?

Well, this thread inspired me to go take out the two tix for tomorrow night’s game and look at them-just to make sure I have the right ones! I’ll be the woman in the throwback 1961 Yankees wool jacket leading the “Who’s your Daddy?” cheers from the second level :D

Will you hold a “cc, wish you were here!” sign? Of course, the announcers will think you’re talking about Sabathia!

Yes, a shout-out to your “peeps” at CC is in order!

A shout out sign would be in order but for the fact that I have NEVER seen an on field camera come near us. We don’t sit in the celebrity section. :frowning: Generally, I have a new bunch of drunks in front of me for every game. You should see what the tickets to the game are going for on stubhub. I need to hide ours from DH or he will be tempted to sell them to recoup previous ticket expenses! ;)

What a disappointing game. Melky dancing around prior to the game jinxed the Yankees. Whether or not the Yanks win the WS, the sports announcer got it right last night…come spring training the Phillies will be playing dodge ball against the Yankees because of them hitting A Rod…payback is not pretty. I am proud of the Yanks for not lowering to their standard…got scared with Burnett last night, but he did the right thing to walk immediately off the mound to let the Phillies know it was not intentional.

Not sure what difference it makes what the nationality of the Anthem singer is, but maybe the Phillies thought it would be good luck. You know, the same kind of good luck that the Blue Jays had when they beat the Phillies in '93 to win back to back World Series. ;)

bulletandpima,
I did read that AJ immediately apologized to Victorino. I also think that if Victorino hadn’t been squaring around to bunt that the ball would not have hit him.

That’s all nonsense about hinting the Phillies want to hit A-Rod. They’re just pitching inside and they hit him. It happens. The Phillies’ pitchers aren’t proud of it - their control hasn’t been good. He didn’t get hit in the head or the hand. Victorino would have been able to get out of the way, I agree, if he hadn’t tried to bunt, but that’s besides the point.

If the Yankees want “payback”, they should pitch inside to Utley. He’ll take the hit, grin, trot to first base and forget about it before the next pitch is thrown.

I’m amazed the Phillies have hung on, given their pathetic relief pitching and Hamels’ continued melt-down.

But the Yankees pitching hasn’t been so great either and we’ve got a series. 49 runs scored in 5 games.

Hope it goes to 7.

I don’t think the Phils have been throwing at Rodriguez, either, although I checked and it turns out that both Pedro Martinez and Chan-Ho Park are near the top of the list for career HBPs among active pitchers. (Neither of THEM has his Rodriguez, though.) Brett Myers is the only Phillie pitcher who would throw at someone on purpose (Myers would throw at his mother if she said something he didn’t like), but he hasn’t been in any of the games.

Chase Utley gets hit by pitches a lot, mainly because he crowds the plate, is vulnerable to inside fastballs, and doesn’t mind “taking one for the team” to get on base in front of Howard. Last year, in one game, he got plonked three times.

Well, I’ve got my Yankee tshirt on…

Hope Pettitte has one more good game in him!

Go Yanks
