One of the reasons we have AAA for D is CA is she can go to AAA instead of DMV for many services. It’s much less stressful for her and they have a branch that was near her USoCal campus. The travel and towing discounts are a nice benefit too. I believe you can make appts and they stick to the schedule. She got smog checks there.
Oh I do get that. And I do get for some people the DMV can cause anxiety in a way that can be disabling.
I think it’s hard to understand real anxiety unless you have it. I don’t, but my daughter does. To me, often the things she finds anxiety-provoking don’t seem that bad to me. At least she’s getting better about not panicking as she gets older (almost 26 now).
Yes and I don’t claim to understand it when I don’t have it. I was really just speaking in terms of all the therapy speak thats going around these days and I think people need to be careful to not just throw out terms like anxiety when they haven’t experienced real anxiety. I certainly wouldn’t say the DMV gives me anxiety in front of the people I know who have real anxiety.
Long ago my grandfather had intense anxiety in crowds etc (probably would be called acrophobia today). Often he’d bring my grandmother somewhere (shopping, graduation, hospital etc) and stay out in the car. He also had a weak heart and took a medical retirement when his accounting firm was acquired. In small, familiar groups he was great and lived a long, quiet retirement.
Acrophobia is a fear of heights. I think you mean agoraphobia.
I’ve never heard of a fear of signing one’s name in public. That’s a new one for me.
There are an incredible number of phobias:
I have a fear of putting my head under water without a mask. I can still scuba dive since I wear a mask.
