"There's no room at Yale for a Berkeley reject."

Has anyone ever heard of a Duke and/or Berkeley reject getting into Yale? I’m trying to give myself and my good friend hope after a teacher of ours smashed it by uttering the title phrase. My friend was also rejected at Duke (I didn’t apply). I’m pretty positive at least ONE person in Yale history has been rejected at Berkeley, but what are the chances of two more of us getting in?

your teacher is a b i t c h

Absolutely not true. Particularly if you’re out of state (for Berkeley at least), they’re probably not going to admit you unless they think you’re really likely to go to the West coast/Berkeley in particular. Berkeley does have a 10% oos admit rate, after all. Don’t lose hope…I honestly think that the Ivies accept a slightly different set from Stanford/Berkeley. Again, I’m not as sure about Duke, but I’m sure something similar occurred there as well. No one can get into them all.

Well, qualified URMs definitely have a better shot at Yale than Berkeley. Yale uses race-based AA and UCs don’t, so right there, your teacher, who is a b i t c h, would definitely be wrong.

I thought I had a decent shot at Yale, but as I keep getting rejected and wait-listed at other schools, it gets bleaker and bleaker.

You’re overqualified, and they don’t want you :3

good luck though and keep up your optimism !!!

That’s the hope, isn’t it?

I got wait listed at Duke, accepted at Berkeley in state. I’m at Yale now. So hopefully you get in!

I started a thread in the college search and decision forum asking about weird rejections/acceptances.

My friend got rejected at UCLA and is now in at Stanford. So anything’s possible Good luck!

So if I am on Stanford’s waitlist (in the top 15% of their applicants), is that a good sign for a Harvard/Yale decision?

Waitlisted at Duke, in at Berkeley, in at Yale (+ Stanford)

^ So you are in this thread why?

Lol let’s hope there’s room for Stanford rejects as well! :stuck_out_tongue: That seriously didn’t help me feel any more confident about Monday’s decisions. Good luck, hopefullybright!

Yale’s decision process is far more holistic than the UC’s, and takes into account a lot more than statistics. Please don’t listen to such banter. It’s rubbish.

Man, Stanford has killed the hopes of so many hopefuls…(including mines) =[

Stanford is crazy when it comes to admissions. I know some unbelievable students/people that were rejected from Stanford, (and accepted to all ivies), as well as an unbelievably average student who got into Stanford (and was rejected from all the ivies they applied to (Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth)

Hopefully that is true, ridonkulous0. =]

^ So you are in this thread why?

Uhh if you were talking to me it was because the OP asked if anyone that didn’t get into Duke got into Yale, and that was the case with me.

^ Sorry, sometimes I am not the best active reader. Just another reason why Yale probably won’t accept me!
