I’m a relatively new person on this site, but I’ve been blown away by the amazingly supportive level of discourse amongst the kids. They empathize, they cheer each other on even though they’re often competing with each other for the same “spot”, they disagree with respect - in a world with so much bad, scary news, it gives me great hope. I think we’re going to see another great generation.

I see this among my son’s friends, too. They have vastly different goals, but they support each other in their goals. One wants to play basketball but is thinking about being a PE teacher/coach since he knows he cannot make it in basketball. Another wants to be a firefighter, but will have to take remedial math and reading before he can start on the courses toward his career. Another plans to join the Air Force. Another will attend community college with uncertain plans from there. Only my son plans to leave the state to attend college. Yet all are good friends, encouraging each other despite differences.

Yes, there still is hope for the future.
