What are the business positions that allow one to travel internationally to meet and negotiate deals, sign contracts, etc. with foreign companies? What can one do to attain that position? I’m under the impression that these people are either sales representatives or buyers.

Corporate Lawyers
Investment Bankers
International Traders
Corporate Bankers
CEO’s, etc. etc.

Traders rarely travel to make deals. Management may but traders rarely travel. Other than that you can add Consultants to that list (although they don’t make deals)

consultants travel the most

I guess corporate lawyers are the best fit for this description at this point since they are the ones who handle the contracts and legal aspects of any business agreement. But are there careers where one’s task is to simply travel wherever it is that they need to, meet with company reps, execs, or whomever, AND to negotiate a deal? Something along the lines of… someone who frequently flies to other countries, meets with other business reps, discusses imports/exports, exclusive sales rights, and negotiates terms of agreement…

A career where the ability to speak multiple languages (although most countries probably conduct business in English now), a good understanding of different cultures, and the desire to explore the world and experience different things can be put to good use.

Anyone know of a job that fulfills those “requirements?” Or did I just make up a job?..

Those would typically be high level sales people or buyers. Sales people sell the product to others while buyers get the necessary supplies to produce a product or even a complete product these days. For a really large deal the top corporate people might negotiate the deal–say you were in China trying to get a plant to make clothes for your company–like the Gap. It would probably be a VP or even the CEO doing the deal. Lawyers iron out the details.
