Thesis Question

Hello,

I am currently an undergraduate in my senior year who is interested in the UK’s relationship with the EU. I have developed a proposed honors thesis but need some help on clarifying and cutting it down to make it testable and relevant to the broader world of political science. Here is what I have thus far:

“Although European integration has been such a divisive issue in British politics, the United Kingdom remains one of the leaders in enacting European Union legislation as compared to less stereotypically Euroskeptical member states due to parliamentary procedure and efficiency, the political party system, and the general lack of a relevant upper house in the policy making process. The examination into Britain’s legislative process with regards to European Union legislation aids in the understanding of the rise in transnational regulation with respect to broader theories on transnational governance in the context of the European Union framework, which suggest that Britain is an increasingly salient actor in the European policy making process and will be for many years to come.”

–Dependent Variable: Transposition of EU legislation into UK law.
–Independent Variables: Parliamentary procedure and efficiency, political party system, and general lack of a relevant upper house.

As my adviser has asked, I need some help forming the relationship between the UK and the EU with regard to transnational integration or governance, which would leave out Britain altogether, as it is simply my case study, helping either to confirm or challenge existing assumptions about transnational integration/governance.

How can I phrase this into one complete, concise sentence? I would anyone’s input at this point who may have expertise in this area. I hope to continue my research into this topic in graduate school, specifically overseas.

Just re-write as many times as you can. Sometimes it’ll take me several drafts to get a 10 line paragraph down to 2 lines. Pretend you only have a 15 second elevator ride with someone, what would you tell that person during those 15-seconds?

That is a fantastic way of looking at it! Thank you for your help. I just need to be clear and concise as you say.
