I got the DHL package containing the information on FSAP, and they say I need to ‘enclose a wallet size photo of myself’.

So I do a search on the net and find out that wallet size photos are. 2.5 inch by 3.5 inch photos, just the right size to fit in a wallet (hence the name). And I’m confused: do they want a full body shot, chest and up, or just the face? Formal (taken at a Photographer’s) or informal (one taken by a friend)? Why 2.5 by 3.5? I mean, aren’t ID photos usually taken with a digital camera once we get there?

I thought of asking the university people, but thought it was rather a stupid thing to be asking about. It could be an American thing. Are ‘wallet size’ photos commonly used in the US for the purpose of being cropped and resized to be stuck/printed on ID cards?

Thanks for any inputs on this rather simple/everyday question.

Hi. Wallet size is a term like portrait size…it just corresponds to a specific dimension. I believe wallet size is eother 2 by 3 or 2.5 by 3.5. It doesn’t matter if it is formal or informal, but it should be chest up. A lot of people use senior pictures. I believe if you don’t send in a picture, they will take one on the first day you get here, since they won’t give you an ID card until you have a picture on file. I guess it’s just a way to speed up orientation so 1300+ people aren’t all trying to get their pictures taken at the same time.

where does it say to send in a picture, I haven’t gotten anything about that.

Oh wait, have u guys already sent in your deposits, like is this something u get only when they know for sure you’re coming?

Thanks Buffy.
And Brown, yes I sent in the deposits for enrollment & for FSAP.

ahh ok good, I was getting worried I was missing something.

For FSAP though, they do need you to send in the picture for that ID - which is entirely seperate from your student ID once school starts in the fall.

In the US, kids have their pictures taken at school and the package comes with versions of that picture in “wallet size” - which is what they want. If you want that same sort of thing - it’s a photographer’s photo taken from the mid-chest up.

Hope that helps,
See you on June 11!

Ooops. Mine was a photo of me being cheezy in front of a mirror, taken by my sister. Thank god it’s not for the actual school ID!

Yes sarasvati, see you in June. It’ll be weird talking to someone from CC… I don’t know if I want to reveal myself! :)

FYI guys… when you do end up sending in your picture for your ID, it doesn’t just go on your ID, it also goes on Faces… this sortof online directory with pictures at WashU for students. So even if you can live with something embarassing on your ID, you might not want it to be public (: (granted, with the facebook, friendster, etc etc, Faces isn’t as huge of a deal as it used to be… and tons of people have silly old pictures on it anyway)
