Things I Should Expect From Transferring

Hello, I am currently a Junior at a junior college in Michigan. However, I only have to finish up one more semester at my junior college, and I will be transferring down south to Georgia Tech. for my spring semester and senior year. I am little nervous about transferring in the middle of the year because I know people will have already established their cliques. Nevertheless, I was wondering what other things should I expect by transferring to an out of state college in the middle of the year?

Positive and Negative feedback is acceptable; please you guys I would really appreciate all honest opinions and even stories if you or if someone you know was in this same situation.

P.S: I will be staying in the dorms with a roommate and I have been told that my dorm is the most crowded and busies. Also, I do not plan on staying in Georgia for the summer I do in face plan on coming back to Michigan for the summer then returning back to GT for the fall though.

Find out if the school has an orientation for spring transfers. See if there will be a new students FB page for spring transfers. Once you get there, join a couple of clubs right away. Read the GT student newspaper or media starting now to get engaged with the campus issues. These will help.

From my experience, it seems like spring semester is a restart from fall semester because of the winter break. Meaning, I see the same cycle of events the first few weeks in spring as I do in fall at my campus - orientations, information booths, greek organization recruiting, club tabling events, etc. You should be fine and what @dyiu13 mentioned should help. You won’t be the only “new” student on campus and the school will know this. Just jump in the foray and get involved with clubs or other campus organizations of interest to you and soon it’ll feel like you’ve been there all along.
