Things my kids friends do that make me crazy

Why do their friends call, and when I ask to take a message, they say, no thanks and hang up? Then when my Ds come home, I say, somebody called for you, and they say “who” and I say the wouldn’t leave a message…MOM, didn’t you ask? Ummm Yeah, but your friends…

Also, when their friends go to a party, tell their parents, yeah, I have a ride home, and suddenly, I am driving them all home at midnight. I can’t just leave them there. I call the mom the next day, and they are usually mad at dear children, but the next time, another girl does it

ARGGGGHHH

Okay I feel better

We live on a boarding school campus, and my S2’s friends have habitually just walked in without knocking, assuming I won’t be here. Uh, Hello . . .~!! I have nearly broken them of this, but it about broke me first!

Along the same lines, when kids who have known me practically all their lives call up and say " Is S there??" instead of greeting me ( who chauffeured them around countless times and made them countless dinners) by name!

The one’s who keep calling over and over again and don’t leave a message on the machine. If we are eating dinner or kids are doing homework they don’t answer the phone. Son has 2 friends who call every 5 minutes till finally someone picks it up. Also one of the same who calls every Sat and sunday morning early before my son wakes up knowing that son is a late sleeper.

Ah, they’re kids. If they acted too much like adults, it would be scarey.

cgm - I’ve stopped asking politely “may I ask who’s calling?” and just say
“who is this, please?” Works about 90% of the time.

You Cook?! ;)

J.

I’m amazed your house phones are ringing! My kids have had ‘secret’ communications (cell phones and IM) for so long, I wouldn’t knwow how to act if I answered the phone and it was for them. (Which may not matter since apparently the friends don’t know how to act on the phone either. )

hahahaha, i love everyone’s reactions!!! i never really considered my parents feelings when my friends call at like 6 in the AM on school days. hehehehe, i’ll def. be more considerate now.

Audio - Sounds like you have my number. I couldn’t boil water years ago, but I’m a great cook now, if I do say so myself. Still, you know the joke, I’m most fond of making …reservations!

weenie - Yes, we have a rule that cell phones get turned off when the kids get home. That way, other kids have to be more motivated to call, cutting down on the excessive calls they were getting at all hours. A nice side benefit is getting to talk to their friends… well sort of (see above post).

Speaking of that - a funny story. S actually forgot to turn the phone off last night. It rings and wakes him up at 3:30 AM. He is annoyed and wondering who is calling him so late, answers it and hears - himself! It was a message he left himself reminding him of something. It had just come through for some reason. We had a good laugh about that!

My dad use to yell at the kids who rang me without saying “its insert name … is Sid there please?” … he scared my friends so much that instead of being polite they just stopped calling me. Quite devastating at the time (13 years old).

Now i can kind of see it from his perspective, but still he went way overboard. There is my vent about parents

CGM- thats horrible that they dont leave a message! are you sure its not someone who has a crush and is just really shy? that would be the only time i would not leave a message when i was young.
