Things People Do That Are So Irritating!!

Since our new neighbors moved in, they and their visitors often park on the no-parking side of our dead-end residential street. It’s hard to believe they don’t realize it, since they are often parked right next to the “no-parking” sign. Situated as their house is at the top of the hill in our subdivision and in the sharp bend of the street, it is dangerous to have cars parked on both sides of the street at that location. Cars traveling in opposite directions can’t see each other anyway because of the layout of the street. As each of them enters the blind curve, they are forced to share the same narrow lane of travel that is left when there are cars parked on both sides of the street. It’s a car accident waiting to happen.

Let me off the elevator before you try to enter. Also please stay to the right when you are on stairs, sidewalks etc.

^^People blocking the metro tunnel escalators belong in there, too! Stay to the right if you dont want to move your legs and let the folks pass you.

While we’re on the subject of metros, if you have a baby in a stroller, I will gladly help you carry it down the steps. However, if your kid is 4, or even worse, your stroller is for your dog, you are on your own.

People yawning loudly are at the top of my list. Long story.

People burping loudly. Purposely. In public places. Multiple times.Usually adolescent male. Was gross. Was trying to enjoy my birthday meal. Not listen to gross burps. Over and over.

Do Not Talk With Your Mouth Full of Food–gag me

Swearing continuously in public. At a diner in New York, the young people in the next booth used the F word in every other sentence. Literally. It kind of ruined our breakfast. Next time I will ask to be moved!

Back quite a while ago, on the issue of wearing hats: I have known two young men who wore hats almost all the time.

Both had some type of glioma, and they were covering a surgical site. You could not have told that there was a health problem, just looking at them. If someone is blocking your view while wearing a hat, I could see getting irritated about that, but otherwise, it seems like a non-issue to me.

I have been quite irritated twice at a Disney site. Once, when I was returning to the hotel on Disney transport after a long day of walking miles in the parks, the bus was quite full and I had to stand. I was standing right next to a seated young man (somewhere in the 17-24 age range), wearing a “Sportsverein” T-shirt. He didn’t offer me his seat. I spent the trip standing, and mentally composing comments in German to say something like, “You look athletic. I am old and not athletic. Would you please offer me your seat?” I said nothing, but it passed the time. It is possible that the young man had some sort of undetectable muscular weakness; and in the not-judging mode, I need to take that into account.

The other time, QMP and I had waited for a water parade to start, standing in a good spot. An extremely rude woman pushed in front of us, blocking the view we had waited quite a while to have–bad enough–and then she accused QMP of stepping on her foot! Of course, that had not happened. I stayed quiet because I thought that perhaps the woman was disturbed. Maybe she was.

Also, I am with the mostly-one-returns-the-shopping-cart-but-sometimes-that’s-just-not-going-to-happen crowd.

On the street I live on, the people across the street’s visitors park dead opposite our driveway, which makes backing out difficult. What makes it more annoying is that it isn’t like this was the only spot (this is the burbs) and they could have pulled up one car length and it would be fine…the worse is the woman’s mother, who drives this mega SUV monstrosity. The street is relatively narrow which makes it worse. Meanwhile, when we have had contractors over getting work like the roof done and such, the woman who lives there constantly complained that the trucks made navigating the road difficult grr.

Karma.

It just occurred to me earlier today that I am really irritated when NPR announcers pronounce words starting with “str” as if they started with “shtr.” Where did that come from?

I travelled this past long weekend and was in two major, very busy airports. It just absolutely amazes me that people will be walking along and just STOP to do the cell phone thing right in the middle of a walkway! If you’re right behind them you have to sudden stop and dodge around to keep from knocking them down. Like there is no one else in the world but them. Or worse, someone just standing there looking around, people watching.
Or…people pulling suitcases who decide to just strike out walking without looking so that you almost fall over them. Same with strollers. I don’t think people keep in mind how pushing or pulling something greatly enhances the size of the space you are now taking up. You can’t act like it’s just your body involved. Sheesh. Watch the heck what you’re doing!
And…in the waiting area people pile their luggage and bags, etc. onto empty chairs so there aren’t enough seats for everyone. And…a single sitting with two empty seats on either side don’t have the grace to move so a couple can sit down next to each other.

When people put their hands in the office snack jar, instead of using the napkins or bowls provided to pour out a serving. (This is why we can’t have nice treats.)

Regarding people walking on the left side of stairs, some people need to use their left arm to hold the rail, due to problems with their right arm-- pain, weakness, etc. Ideally stairs should have a rail down the center as well as on the side.

Also people who live in (or are traveling from) countries where they drive on the left side of the road also keep to the left in halls, stairs etc.

Of course many people who walk on the “wrong” side of stairs don’t fit either category.

I saw a similar post but cursing in public seems to have gotten out of control. I am sure when I was young I was not always careful with my language but now it is typically adults that have a potty mouth.

threaten nuclear war–I hate it when they do that.

Coming into the bar, pounding the bar, and screaming “SHOTS!” repeatedly. There’s about a 50% chance you’re eventually gonna be removed from the bar. This isn’t that kind of establishment, and I am not having an alcohol poisoning case on my watch.

These must be the same people I see every year on ski slopes  It helps that I am a good skier, but it came really close a few times.

I hate when rocket scientists and other brainiacs can’t take a few seconds to sort garbage, compostables, and recyclables into the appropriate containers after finishing their lunch. Guess where the mixed stuff goes? Landfill.
