@CALSmom – we have the same kiddos, only DS eats my specially saved scoop of ice cream!
I hate when people use Roundup. Irritating
I hate it when dog owners open up their front doors and let their dogs out to roam the neighborhood unsupervised. No problem with the dog, just the stupid and inconsiderate owners who think it’s my job to let them know when their dog does its business in my yard, and that it’s my job to keep their dog out of my garage.
@CALSmom “5. When people post mushy Facebook posts of how their spouse is the best or my life is so wonderful every week”
Along the same line, when people post something mushy about wonderful daughters, sons, etc. and then say “if you love your daughter/son, copy and post.” So if I don’t fall into this trap of copying and pasting, I don’t love my daughter or son or whoever?? Ridiculous posts that irritate me to no end!
I’m always a bit puzzled when someone posts on FB "Happy Birthday to my amazing husband-the best husband a woman could ever want!’ First of all, why didn’t you just tell him that or write it in a nice card? And secondly, many of these posts are made about their spouse (or a very young child) who doesn’t even HAVE a FB page. So what’s the point of that?
A lot of FB stuff just seems like an attempt to make their lives look perfect or a chance to brag to a really large audience.
I have a relative whose FB posting behavior is beyond ridiculous. I really don’t see why you need to post a picture of really sexy lingerie and announce to the world on FB (ostensibly addressed to DH) how you are going to give him a gift by buying that for yourself-winky face-blushy face-smiley face.
SERIOUSLY?
When people insist that a lower ranked private school is superior to a higher ranked public purely on the basis of it being private.
Also, when people insist that they should have the right to have sex frequently in a dorm, even if their roommate doesn’t want them to.
And when people imply that dating is different for gifted children because they feel everything more intensely.
When people disagree with something and instead of discussing their point of view decide everyone must have their same smart opinion and call the other person names…
People who go on fad diets, successfully losing the same 25# & gaining it back year after year, who send me emails about the new cool fad guy, but disregard any and all suggestions, after having asked me for ideas. Stop, just stop eating one way for 2 months and then going back to “normal” and hey, move more, just move more and more, use the flipping app that tracks the exercise and work on little increases. Nope, yada, yada, yada, drops, yada yada, fast, yada yada, video. ARGH
People that let their weeds spread into the neighbors’ yards. I had to take Celebrex for a couple of weeks after I wrecked my wrist pulling dandelions that sprouted in my front garden because the neighbor would not mow his dandelion-infested lawn. And people who let the blackberries overrun their backyards. Birds eat the berries and spread the noxious plant by pooping the seeds into people’s gardens. So irritating.
People who stop in the middle of the crosswalk on busy streets to stare at their cellphone, completely clueless to the fact that people in cars would like to get to their destination also.
Drove up I-95 and NJTP today from VA to MA. I will spare you. ::::::::::screaming silently:::::::::::
I’ve done parts of that stretch many times in the past year, @VaBluebird. Traffic just gets worse and worse but the expansion/repaving of NJTP has been pretty nice. (No need to talk about the craptastic highways in CT/MA)
Yesterday, CT was a parking lot from the state line to almost New London. I thought I was going to pull my hair out.
Yes, that road is absolutely ridiculous! Why on earth it is not widened I can’t imagine. Too many cars. No accidents, just too many cars for the road!
@VaBluebird, if you have to do that drive again, try this route:
At exit 11 on the NJTP, get on the GSP north.
Take the GSP to the end, get on 287 E towards the Tappan Zee bridge
After you cross the Tappan Zee, take the Hutchinson River Parkway north
The Hutch turns into the Merritt Parkway, take it all the way to the end to I91 north
Depending on the traffic in Hartford either 1) take the Charter Oak bridge to I84 or 2) at exit 25, take 3 to 2 to I84
I84 to the Mass Pike
I have done this trip more times than I can count, and this is the best way I have found. It bypasses NYC and I95 in CT which is just a complete disaster.
You can also take 684N to I84E from I287 if the traffic on the Merritt looks bad, but I84 across CT is a crap-shoot.
I swear the state of Connecticut has been under construction since I first started driving to Boston in 1973. FWIW I never take 95. I’ll take one of the options listed above.
@notrichenough , thank you. Yes, we did do the Tappan Zee route only we went on to 95 instead of taking the Merritt Parkway. I was driving and dh was using google maps and I had Waze up on my phone but he didn’t know how to use it. After we get to the Hartford area we would have to head back S.E. as we go to S. Mass.
So, well, anyway…long, long, long day. But thank you for that info.
@VaBlueBird The study of urban transportation systems is kind of my thing, and you’ve hit on a topic I rather like to discuss. I can tell you the reason road was not widened is that, once you have three or four lanes, widening a road doesn’t really reduce congestion any further. Basically every time we try it, the traffic just stays. A lot of it is simply that if we build more space, drivers take that route and it stays congested, and part of it is that the traffic jam is so long that shortening it still leaves traffic backed up for miles, which results in not much difference being perceived. And at the end of the day, what comes down to is that cars take up a ton of space, and in America cars are basically mandatory in most places, so every commuter is taking up a ton space, resulting in horrid traffic in basically any city of significant size. Esentially, a transportation system based primarily around the automobile is a slow, congested, and often unsafe transportation system. By widening the road, you neither fix the traffic, nor address the fact that the real problem is Americans driving so much (which, like I said, is mandatory in most regions because the transportation system is designed around the private automobile). Fixing that is a huge, complicated process that involves a lot of things not necessarily within the realm of transportation planning (high urban rents and job growth way outpacing housing construction in cities is a huge contributor, because the people in those jobs end up with long commutes where they have to drive).
